My nonfiction books are separated from my fiction and my archaeology/anthropology books are separated from everything else (just for easy research purposes). Besides that, everything is random, and I like it that way because then I can feel like I'm browsing my own library.
As far as my e-read stuff, most of it is just borrowed from Overdrive or gotten free on the Kindle app, so....not really a lot of organization there.

I have my books in my 'reading tablet'. I arrange it under the genre folders. And I have a limited library in our kitchen.A small cupboard on bottom just for my books. So, I arrange books:1st row-I like to reread and books I liked
2nd/Last Row-Books I'd like to swap and new books I've brought
on my Real-life bookshelf my books are arranged by height by series. on my ebook reader, in order of date added hehe.
I arrange mine by genre, and then alphabetically within each genre.
I arrange according to my read-unread status followed by my liking(or recommendations in case of unread), and then by their size
Hardcovers, then paperbacks. Pack them tight enough on the shelves so that they don't fall over, but not so tight that you can't pull one out...books don't like to be squeezed! My favorites, or the ones I enjoy re-reading, are usually kept at the front for easy access.
Other than that, I don't really have a system! I hate, hate, HATE alphabetical order, so that's out. I guess I could group them by author, or color-code them, but I a lot of my books are written by different authors, and they are usually all different colors, too.
Oh well. My bookcase is small, anyway. When I grow up and can expand my library even more, then I'll consider a better system of organization!
Mine are divided into children/middle grade, YA/MA, then adult, and the non-fiction has its own section. Then they're arranged alphabetically by the author's last name, except with series books which are in reading order. I separated my mass market paperbacks, graphic novels/comics/manga (those are not arranged alphabetically, but by size), and poetry, too. They have their own spaces.
I don't have an official bookshelf at the moment (I use an old desk) but right now my books are separated by what I have already read at the bottom of the desk and my to-read books on the top of the desk. Can't wait to have a real bookshelf someday.
I don't, my husband does (by author, by color, by size). I just make a mess, take books out and place them somewhere they don't belong.
I arrange them by "type". I don't wanna say by genre because i don't have them by, for example, mystery, then romance, then bla bla... First shelves are for fiction in general. From left to right: a) my old ones from school, childhood, etc. b)world classics c)latinoamerican literature (short stories, novels, etc.) d) my mystery collection (Sherlock Holmes series, Agatha Christie, etc.) e) my Stephen King books (I have many, so I put them all together).
Last shelves are for non-fiction. From left to right: a) philosophy b) books I read for college: psychology, some journals, etc. c) the rest of my non-fiction XD.
Alphabetically by title name and if that gets boring than its by size or authors name and such. It changes when I get tired of seeing it a certain way.
By genre, then last name of author. I have different bookshelves so it helps to spread them out. Right now have Urban Fantasy, PNR, Romance (Seperated by harlequins, then Indian, then contemporary, then historical), science fiction and fantasy mixed, herbals shelf, YA together, mysteries, horror and suspense mixed together, classics, drama, comics/graphic novels. Nonfiction and misc hardcovers spread out.
4 shelves...One for ludicrously bad books that has no resale values, 'morality' wont allow me to donate these either. Food for mites!
Another for good/decent ones. Decently maintained. Clean one. This shelf has the most books in it. meh..
Third one for academic ones. Books in it change every year. Have decent resale values.
4th..A very special scented, very well decorated (exquisite yet minimal) shelf; there loll, unopened well maintained mint conditions of the books I loved, now only 12 books made it to that one. It's like looking at a priceless painting.
One bookshelf is for my favorite books and to-read books. The other bookshelf has hardcover on the first 3 shelves and paperback on the bottom 2 shelves. When I moved in with my boyfriend I could only take 2 of my 4 bookshelves to our apartment. The other two shelves are at my moms house with some books in one and my children's book in another. The rest of my books are in bins in my apartment (thank goodness we had a massive amount of storage space lol)
On my real life bookshelf they are arranged by Author and then under each author they are sub-arranged by series or publication date. On my e-book shelf they are arranged by author and then under each author series books are together and the rest are in alphabetical order.
I have so many books that some are in boxes, so I really don't have them in any particular order.
on the top shelf I stuff all my series books, on the middle shelf I stuff my stand alone books and on the last shelf is where I stuff my books I've already read, I am soon needing a bigger shelf unfortunately
Is it bad that I don't organize really but I just place them on my bookshelf. I mean my authors are together but that is about the tops of my organization tactics.
I separate fiction and non-fiction, then it's alphabetical by author and timeline of release if it's multiple books by the same author.
Mostly by Series and then the books I want to read later in back and books I hope to read in coming months in front of them and then any which way I can fit the books.
I tend to arrange my books by author and by series.
