SOLVED. Adult Apocalyptical. Last man on earth. Wakes up, everyone else is just gone. He learns to survive on his own. Dies of old age, plot twist at end, when he dies, his wife wakes up and everyone in the world is gone.

Ok.. I've scoured my Calibre library and my read books here at goodreads. I've googled and the closest I can get is "Earth Abides", which I've read, but it's not the book. He really is the last man on earth, no explanation. He just wakes up one day, his wife isn't in bed, and everyone on the earth is just gone. He has to learn to grow and harvest his own food. He has a dog that seems like it's too intelligent to be a dog. Throughout the years, the dog dies, and one of the puppies is almost "picked" by the dying dog to take his place. One of the chapters that sticks in my head is him seeing a giraffe I think, and maybe a tiger in the woods as the zoo seems to have degraded. The end of the book is him dying as an old man under a tree. His current dog watches over him, and when he dies.. the dog kind of sighs and walks away, again, almost as if he had a mission to watch over the guy. The next page is his wife waking up in bed and he is missing along with everyone else in the world. That's how it ends. Very strange! Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really like to read this one again. Oh.. it was quite a few years ago.. over 10 I believe.. but I can't be 100% sure. Thanks for any help!!

Ok, found it.. whew! It's "Alone" by TR Sullivan.. read it again and I like it! :)
