SO there is a The Martian the movie coming out this year Matt Damion as Mark Watney (so i'm scared) rest of the cast seems ok ...just worried about who will play the potatoes. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3659388/

Yeah not so happy about it being matt damon.
Not so sure about Matt Damon either, but I do like some of the other casting. I do find it funny that (being Norwegian myself) one of the two Norwegian Hollywood actors, Aksel Hennie, is going to play Alex Vogel. Wasn't he German? I guess one European accent is as good as another in Hollywood.

I'm not opposed to Matt Damon, though I think "broody" more than "smart acre" when I think Matt Damon. And I think Watney is definitely in the smart acre category. Chris Pine maybe. Or Bradley Cooper. I'm more opposed to Tatum Channing than Matt Damon.
I really like the Bradley Cooper suggestion. I think he suits the humor better than Damon. I don't see Damon with that humor.
Bradley Cooper can also do "scruffy" well.
How about Jason Segel. I think he could do the humor good then kinda get into the dark despairing humor. Also think he could do the smart stuff and not seem full of it.
Personality wise Jason Segel would be good. But he is a very tall man, and I think Mark is supposed to be smallish in body type. But I could be wrong, I listened to it on audiobook so I can't look it up.I agree with you again there Wendy. The more I think about it I think Cooper would be my first choice.
Ultimately they are going to want a big name, since he will be on screen, alone for long stretches of time. Honestly I am indifferent to Damon, but it could be a whole lot worse.
