Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Now that I'm caught up, cannot wait for this one! :D

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I'll be ready. Just waiting until the 10th so I can start early and still get BR points in the challenge

The kids! Very excited to start this lol

Solseit | 1516 comments I need to get back to this world and I am quite excited to see a buddy read (it has been forever since I did a buddy read and more so one here!). Ready, set, go!

Nirkatze | 21414 comments Whoo! Welcome back Solseit!

Solseit | 1516 comments Nirkatze wrote: "Whoo! Welcome back Solseit!"

Thank you! Your message just put a big smile on my face and I needed a win today - so double thank you!

Nirkatze | 21414 comments Awww, happy to do so! I think I must've joined the group since you last read with us, but I've come to learn that FBR folks are some of the best folks out there. Excited to meet a new person, and the more the merrier, always, with BRs!

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Dittoing Nirkatze here! Excited to have you with us :D

Solseit | 1516 comments Thank you guys! Even bigger smile on my face!
Yes, I completely agree with you; I joined a few years ago because of the love the group had for the Malazan Book of the Fallen; what impressed me the most is the supportive enviornment and the love for the genre that shows at every single read!

Solseit | 1516 comments I will be starting the book a few days earlier - apologies for that but I need a book that will be a great distraction and will keep me engaged for a long time without demanding anything else than my attention! I have missed this world!

Solseit | 1516 comments I tend to go overboard when I have time to read and I just finished part I.

Next to continous quotable gems (view spoiler) that keep me making me crack, the story is absolutely stunning as usual.

I truly enjoy the cast of characters that we are getting to know (view spoiler); they are one better than the other.
I love the setting (view spoiler) and the plot overall. I see how we are getting three of these books; there cannot be anything less than this!

Also, I love the addition re magic system (view spoiler) and I cannot wait to see how the magi will get their grubby little fingers entangled here.

My favorite character, and she was in my first read too, is Savine, closely followed by Rikke. Yet, I cannot wait to see how the others level up to their levels (view spoiler).

Genuinely, a magnetic book!

Nirkatze | 21414 comments I'll be along in a week or so, looking forward to those spoiler tags! Abercrombie does have such great quotes...

Ann-Marie | 5595 comments I may be a bit late depending on how my reading goes this week. I have 3 in front of this, one of which is for my in-person book club so that one has to get done! But I am very much looking forward to revisiting Abercrombie <3

Barry (boprawira) | 1212 comments Will be late joining.

Are you guys also planning to finish the rest of the series?

Solseit | 1516 comments Barry wrote: "Will be late joining.

All the series is planned out, one book a month, starting more or less in the middle of the month each month!

Nirkatze | 21414 comments I might even be a bit early--I used a July Hoopla credit on this, so I have to finish by the 20th. ^^ Looking forward to it!

Solseit | 1516 comments Nirkatze wrote: "I might even be a bit early--I used a July Hoopla credit on this, so I have to finish by the 20th. ^^ Looking forward to it!"
Nice! I have been making very slow progress in the last couple of days but I plan to finish by Friday at the latest (as I have a pretty long train ride!).

LOL and I realized I said that about the wrong book... it was Crossed Blades I borrowed, in a different BR. That's what happens when you have too many tabs open at once!

I'll probably be a little late, and slow and normal here... I haven't decided if I want to do eyebook or earbook--it'll depend on where I am with my list of reads...

No worries at all! Yes, the beauty is having multiple reads ongoing at the same time, just great!

Ann-Marie | 5595 comments I will most likely be able to start this later today, tomorrow at the latest. I have to finish Kaiju Preservation for irl book club Friday night then I get to revisit Abercrombie and his morally grey characters <3

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I started a little early, but I've only gotten about 4 hours into the audiobook

Thank you! I have been missing buddy reading here and all interacions I had, confirmed my wanting!

Solseit | 1516 comments Ann-Marie wrote: "Started a bit ago, through The Breakers [spoilers removed]"

Yes, absolutely yes to all you said! The experience reading this book is that is familiar (for a number of reasons, including those you mention) and novel at the same time! I cannot wait to see how this trilogy spins!

Nirkatze | 21414 comments Starting! Work is just starting up again (students arrive today >.<) so I'm betting I wont have the brain cells to comment much. But looking forward to reading everyone's spoilers!

YES! And ick is right lol

Solseit | 1516 comments I am unfortunately on the go right now, so I am struggling to include all the information and spoiler warnings. So I will keep it high level: such a good book, familiar and unique at the same time, great dialogues (I think Abercrombie is the master of sarcasm and dialogue in fantasy!).
I cannot wait to go to book 2! In a couple of days, I will be able to share more details!

I got a little grumpy with Abercrombie during the standalones, for some reason...

My ratings for the First Law World megaseries, are 5/5/4/4/3/3/forgot to rate, not sure if I read Sharp Ends/5/4/5...

The 2nd trilogy really reinvigorated my love of the series/author, after a nice long break... so good...

Definitely feeling Ann-Marie's comments about Bayaz :D ... (view spoiler)

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments THrough "All Equal" which is about the half way point... Some random thoughts (view spoiler)

Ann-Marie | 5595 comments I finished this last night, (view spoiler)

I loved this, it was so much fun to go back to this terrible, graphically violent world.

I don't know, after reading this I have fears that I am setting myself up for disappointment about Bayez, I hope I am wrong but man, Abercrombie is twisted and who knows what he will do...

Nirkatze | 21414 comments I read this over the past couple days--sadly, too exhausted to comment or think properly, but I had all of the same thoughts!

@Solseit, re: Part I--I love the little tidbits you remembered and shared! One of my favorites, linewise, is every time someone says a Logen-ism... (view spoiler)

@Ann-Marie, re: The Breakers--Also really loved (view spoiler)

@Ann-Marie, re: Love Child... I'm not so sure about that... through the End thoughts... (view spoiler)

@Emily & Ann-Marie re: Young Heroes--(view spoiler)

@Ann-Marie, re: Knowing the Arrow--(view spoiler)

Yoru--part @Ann-Marie re: Part III, but also not sure when some of this stuff was mentioned, so probably through ending. (view spoiler)

I don't want to spoil too much... but I think First Law World has at least one more trilogy in it...

Considering the way this trilogy explores the industrial revolution, basically, I almost view it like Mistborn's shifting eras...

Abercrombie is working on his new series right now, so i don't know when he'd revisit, but (getting into spoiler territory now) (view spoiler)
