GENERAL | What is dark

Dark romance is a subgenre of romance that explores intense and sometimes controversial themes, often involving complex and flawed characters. Unlike traditional romance, dark romance delves into darker aspects of human relationships, featuring elements such as obsession, power dynamics, or unconventional love stories. It may involve themes of danger, betrayal, or emotional turmoil. Dark romance often pushes boundaries and challenges societal norms in its portrayal of passionate and often tumultuous relationships. It's important to note that dark romance may contain sensitive or explicit content, and readers should approach it with awareness of their preferences and comfort levels.

MAFIA | Organized crime

Mafia romance is a genre of storytelling that revolves around romantic relationships involving characters connected to organized crime or the mafia. It's like a love story that unfolds amidst the dangerous and intriguing world of criminal organizations. These stories often feature protagonists who are either involved with or connected to the mafia in some way, and their relationships navigate the complexities of loyalty, power struggles, and the allure of the forbidden. Mafia romance can involve themes of danger, forbidden love, and the tension between love and loyalty in a world of crime and intrigue. Imagine passionate and intense love stories set against a backdrop of secrecy, danger, and the allure of a forbidden lifestyle.

CRIME | Sides of the law

Crime romance is a genre of storytelling that combines elements of romance and crime. It's like a love story that unfolds within the context of criminal activities or investigations. These stories often involve characters who are either on opposite sides of the law or find themselves entangled in criminal situations. Crime romance can feature themes of forbidden love, moral dilemmas, and the challenges of balancing romance and a life of crime. Imagine passionate relationships that face obstacles and complexities due to the criminal world they inhabit. It's a blend of love and suspense, where the boundaries between right and wrong are blurred.

STALKER | Obsessive love

Stalker romance, also known as dark or obsessive romance, is a genre of storytelling that focuses on romantic relationships involving a stalker or an obsessive individual. It explores the dynamics of an intense and often unhealthy love connection. These stories often delve into the darker aspects of love, obsession, and the psychological complexities of relationships. Stalker romance can feature themes of obsession, manipulation, and the blurred boundaries between love and possession. It's important to note that stalker romance contains sensitive and potentially triggering content, and readers should approach it with caution and consideration for their own emotional well-being.

MORALLY GREY | Villains have stories too

Morally grey characters are fictional characters who possess a mix of both good and bad qualities or exhibit morally ambiguous behavior. They exist in a gray area between being purely good or purely evil. These characters often make decisions or take actions that can be seen as morally questionable or morally ambiguous. Their actions may be driven by personal gain, a desire for justice, or a complex set of motivations. Morally grey characters challenge traditional notions of heroes and villains and can bring depth and complexity to a story. They blur the lines between right and wrong, provoking readers to question their own moral judgments and explore the complexities of human nature.

ETC | Lots more genres

These are by far not all the genre’s, but a basic idea. Any books with lots of murder, toxic behavior, torture, etc are considered dark. However, there are some discussions about levels of darkness. While someone may find one book a dark romance, someone else might not think so. For example, i myself don’t consider all mafia stories dark.
