Rachel | 280 comments I haven't read this book yet since it just came out, but I just received this book for December 2022 as part of my Book of the Month subscription. I thought it might also double as a good book for this group for a fiction month! Florida is falling apart, a hurricane is looming, and then the story is set against those backdrops. It's got great reviews, and also kind of fitting since we're in hurricane season now.

Rachel | 280 comments I didn't expect to be so captivated by this book that I read it in <24 hours, basically only stopping to sleep. It's set in Florida (in the US), with increasingly disastrous hurricanes and sea level rise causing societal and infrastructure collapse. It's a very real potential future. But also somehow the book is just a little bit hopeful, even as everything falls apart. I honestly couldn't put it down. Maybe it's because I'm a wetland scientist who spends many many days trekking through cypress swamps and imagining life in such a place. Maybe it's because I'm a scientist aware of climate change and it's already begun impacts. Maybe it's because I live in a coastal place that is imperiled by hurricanes and sea level rise and erosion and submergence and subsidence and all other forms of disappearance. Whichever it is, this book grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go. It's excellent and I hope you also enjoy!
