Cozy Mysteries discussion

Hi all, I would never - normally - start a series with anything other than the first book. Unfortunately I’ve started the Inspector Banks series with the last, Standing in the Shadows. It just sounded like a good book. I know this is a well loved series so I’m really surprised by how hard going the boom is for me. It drags a lot, no? Thoughts from more experienced Banks readers?

Is it this series? I've seen the TV series but haven't read the books.
