August is my birthday month and my favorite subgenre of mystery/crime novels is the historical mystery, in which all of the action takes place in the past.

Here's a list of possibilities:

Remember -- 1) do not nominate your own books and 2) if your book wins the poll, you will be the moderator for that discussion. It's not a big deal -- just keep the conversation moving as much as you can.

I'll look forward to seeing what gets nominated!

CBRetriever | 2607 comments I nominate The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch. It's set in Bavaria in 1659 and written by a German. It was published in English by Amazon Crossings which is a publishing arm of Amazon dedicated to publishing books from non-US/UK authors that they translate into English.

The book features the Hangman who is also the town torturer (though he doesn't believe in torture), his daughter and the doctor's son as the main protagonists trying to solve the mystery of a small boy's death (attributed to the local "witch") and the politics and mores of the small town.

Hi
Id like to recommend The Widows of Malabar Hill since you enjoyed Vaseem.Khans's representation of India and its wonen during its infant independence years. I've not read it but have only heard glowing reports of it. Hope you enjoy it.

No apologies needed at all! It happens. And yes, Silence for the Dead fits the theme. Thank you!

I recently finished reading The Devil's Playground by Craig Russell so that will be my nomination. The action takes place mainly in old Hollywood in the late 1920s.

I read it already and loved it - now I'm watching the prices on the rest of the book in the series.
