I definitely made a bit of an executive decision... the debate for reading order with Discworld could go on forever... I think that's why I never requested it before...

But, like Narilka said here, and I said in the Planning thread, with all the different reading orders, people can feel free to pop in and out on certain sub-series...

I’ve always been interested in the series but have only read two books.
I think I’ll give it a try.

I'm actually relieved. I saw the thread and thought, "I don't want to miss out on this, "diving headlong into the book, which wasn't my original plan. That's probably why I was struggling with it this time. Not in the right frame of mind. Now, I'll be prepared.

Sounds good... I definitely have more than enough BRs to keep me busy, at the moment...

I’m going to take part in this as much as I can. It looks like my library doesn’t have the first several in audio. I’ll be listening to this one through Spotify which is so weird.

It does but they have limits on how much you can listen too in a month and it’s like 8 hours which is less than most books. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m trying it with this one.

Aha! An excuse to reread the Discworld books! (Not that I really need one.) Count me in.

I will join too. I think I've read this a couple of months ago in another group.

I see from the posts here that the last time I read The Colour of Magic, I rated it lower than anyone else has here (2 stars). I'm reading it again mainly because of a completist* wish to read the entire series, but I'll be interested to see if I rate it higher this time.

* Amused to see that I get a red wiggly line under 'completist'. Come on, Microsoft (or is it Goodreads??!), get yourselves educated, it's not that obscure a word...

Yeah, it's more a collection of interconnected short stories than one full length story itself. I'm glad this is the only one in the series like that.

The first time I read it I didn't much enjoy it either. I think I gave it a 2.5 rounded up. We'll see how I like it this time. It'll probably be a week until I get to it to find out.

I've started this one today, but it's the Dutch translation. I only read Equal Rites and saw the tv - series The nIght Watch, which I really enjoyed.
(view spoiler)[The describing of A'Tuin is interesting. With a bit of effort I can envision the big turtle with the 4 elephants and the disc on their back. It takes a while to adjust to the writing style and the different names, though. (hide spoiler)]

Poor Twoflower!
(view spoiler)[He's in the inn and there are some figures who are trying to take advantage of him. He has no clue and is still swinging his gold around. He's such a tourist! I love Luggage, a walking suitcase with lots of tiny little legs. I wonder why Rincewind was shocked to hear that Twoflower came from the Counterweight Continent. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Ha, I was amused that there actually was a demon inside the little black box and that it wans't made up by Rincewind. He's face must have been golden when the door opened and the demon came out, screaming that his pink color was completely used. (hide spoiler)]

This is about where I have left off in the story so far. I am really excited to read this series with everyone.

I remember thinking when I read Night Watch that it was one of the best Discworld novels, if not THE best. But don't ask me why, because I can't remember. (I'm blessed with a terrible memory, which is great for rereading Pratchett, because I enjoy the jokes just as much the second time round.) :)

Oh I wish I could do that with Harry Potter.

Yes, that was hilarious of Rincewind. Totally understandable reaction of the little demon.

I only read 1 book in the series and now this one, so hopefully I can say the same as you, when I get so far.

The brawl in the Broken Drum:

I've been struck by how much violence and death there is in this book. It's like Game of Thrones, but done for laughs.

Yes, you're right about that. I haven't suspected that. Death must be a very busy character at times...

I’m starting this one tonight. My husband loves Pratchett and Discworld. I’m surprised I haven’t done any of it yet. We’ll have been married for 10 years in August.

You guys are way ahead of me. I’m hoping to finish An Easy Death tonight and start this one tomorrow. It’s going to be a reread but I can’t say I remember too much about it except the 2 main characters and the moving chest.

This book is fun. I’m listening to it on Spotify so I can really tell how far I am through it. But I loved this line. ‘It’s sour beer not so much purchased as merely hired for a while,’ 😂

The luggage sounds so cute! I want it to be my friend and follow me around.

I finished this one. Solid fun little quirky story. I know Discworld takes off a bit later in the series so I’m feeling pretty optimistic about it. I’ve been warned that this first one isn’t very good but I thought it was fine.

Nearly halfway through this now. I think to say it has a plot would be flattering it unduly, but it's amusing. The gods are fun, but I'm worried about the iconograph imp — how is he paid for his services? What hours is he having to work? Is he in a union? As for Bravd and the Weasel, they aren't really earning their keep so far, and I'm hoping they were hired to do more than remind me of dear old Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser of blessed memory.
