Was McWhirter's name Andrew or Angus in your copy? I read a paperback, and it was Andrew, but I remembered his name as Angus, so I'm wondering if it was changed to Andrew for a U.S. version?
I looked at my blog review & he is definitely "Angus" in some of the versions because that's how I refer to him.https://allthevintageladies.com/2018/...
There are a few spoilery bits, although it doesn't reveal the solution!
