Marlfox, by Brian Jacques
A band of crafty marlfoxes, thought to be magical by other creatures, set off from their island to attack Redwall, and a group of intrepid youngsters from Redwall take off on their own quest, both to save Redwall and to rescue the many creatures the marlfoxes keep as slaves on their island.
For a book full of cute talking animals, this book is dark enough to keep my interest, and there's a lot of talk of food. Now I want honey and pear sauce, or maybe poached pears in honey sauce? I'll be heading to our food pantry for a few hours tomorrow, and I know we stocked some pears in the produce area, so I may have to try out that book-inspired snack for the last 4 hours of our readathon.

I have had these for years. I was obsessed with the Nocturne line when it started but was still doing a lot of book reviewing so books people sent me always had to take priority over "want-to-reads." I'm finally working my way through these. It's only taken 16 years. LOL This trilogy is reserved for my sprints this go round. And yes, I read this entire book just on sprints.
The Daughter of Doctor Moreau
Even Though I Knew the End
Both of these were good, but I didn't feel there was much surprising or fresh about either of them.
The religious themes that both of them explored also didn't appeal to me personally.
A Wheel within a Wheel - How I learned to Ride the Bicycle with Some Reflections by the Way by Frances E. Willard
This memoir of women's early biking is a good read for feminists who want to hear/read personal experience of a woman about 50 learn to ride a bike. Riding a bike remains in parts of the developing world a act of freedom and empowerment. Hats off!
