My favourite series (in spite of its many flaws) is the Lensman by E.E. "Doc" Smith, It is a batshit crazy ride from start to finish, Just when you think the action could not get any more over the top Smith just keeps going. Start with Galactic Patrol (leave the two prequels to last and only if a completionist) and hang on tight.
I like it because of the plot, the characters and they over the top space warfare and science shenanigans.
When imagining a multi-year TV version of this I picture Idris Elba as Kim Kinnison.
Warnings: Eugenics, way too much Eugenics (it is the less bad good Eugenics, i.e. no murdering lesser beings, but it is still Eugenics).
Sexism: this is old. So while not too bad for its time it has the women have different attribute to men trope in spades.
Reporting for Boskone, out.

This is the same format as the “Best Fantasy Series” video I posted: a guy invites a bunch of book lovers to list their favorite Sci-if books. He even gets a number of authors to participate, like Gareth L. Powell, Cat Rambo, Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki, Steven Barnes, Sarah Pinsker, Greg Bear, Dennis E. Taylor, David Brin… lots more. I’m only a little over an hour in, but the choices are interesting, sometimes surprising, and span the gamut from the very old (Last and First Men) to recent 2022 publications.
