Casting Cotillion

Barbara:Not sure if this is the right thread or if there is an actual 'fantasy casting' one I can't find - if so, sorry and I am happy for moderators to move this post.I just finished Cotillion ( again) and was struck by how wonderfully the young Hugh Laurie would have played Dolphinton, (think his hilarious Prince Regent in Blackadder) . The young Hugh Grant for Freddy perhaps? The young Stephen Fry for Biddenden or the prosy vicar ( just can't remember his name) Young Jennifer Erhle for Kitty ? Brenda Blethyn for Hannah Plymstock - .. but who for Olivia Broughty and Camille?
Jackie: I was thinking Hugh Laurie for Freddy and Steven Fry for Hugh Rattray, the prosy vicar, but how about Hugh Grant for Jack?
Susan in NC: Great ideas, Barbara! If Hugh J plays swashbuckling Jack, maybe Hugh Grant for Camille? Can he do a French accent? How about Timothy Chalemet (sp?)? I know I’m mixing generations here, but if it’s fantasy…Olivia has me stumped, she has to be beautiful, but play frightened (of her mama) and dense at the same time…but I’m clueless as to young actresses these days. And in the realm of fantasy, Helena Bonham-Carter and Emma Thompson, even when young, seemed too smart to pull off Olivia, if you see what I mean! I picture a young Michelle Pfeiffer, also smart, but had that jaw-dropping beauty, wide-eyed innocent thing - plus able to cry and not look awful, seems like an Olivia thing to do!
I would have to look up some of these actors, but I do think Hugh Lauries could play either Freddy or Dolph!

And how about Richard E Grant or the young Jeremy Irons for Jack ? Or even the young Colin Firth.
Since it is fantasy and we can mix generations if we like, I wonder about Margo Robbie for Olivia Broughty? And Timothée Chalomet for Camille is perfect, Carol!

Margot Robbie (sp) is definitely beautiful enough for Olivia!
Have any of you seen Hugh Grant in Till We Meet Again? It's based on a Judith Krantz novel. He was a horrible, loathsome character! I think he'd be perfect for Jack.

Definitely.
And how about Natalie Portman for Kitty ? And Cate Blanchett for Miss Fishguard ( who was not all that old it transpired and probably not that bad looking ) Matthew Penicuik too was only 60 odd wasn't he , though looking far older and certainly acting like a valetudarian. How about Jeremy Irons? He'd have fun with that role .

The Really Useful Stuff folder is more for research factual stuff. & I'm hoping that the sanitising of The Grand Sophy means the long awaited film will happen in the next year or two. :) Of course that means the thread about Heyer films is in the wrong place as well, but there is no other obvious place.
If a Heyer film does come off, I will create a new folder for it!
