Theresa | 15750 comments I am opening this thread now because I finished my IRL Feminerdy BC book this past weekend, well ahead of schedule. I should be starting this by end of this week, work allowing.

I have it in hardcover with the cover pictured here which frankly is what seduced me into buying it in the first place. It has moved from one TBR Tower to another before settling on a bedside table stack. I don't even remember what it is about! I am hoping it has a moral dilemma in it, lol.

How did it end up on your TBR?

Booknblues | 12211 comments It is one of the many books which I kept reading positive reviews for and then had a chance to buy it on kindle at a good sale price.

From the description it seems there might be a moral dilemma.

Yes, I think so from the summary I read just now!

A bonus to trim and buddy read.

Theresa | 15750 comments Especially given some hefty reading I have in August!

Hayjay315 | 465 comments Goodreads recommended this one to me as a result of something I was reading at the time. I wish I could remember what book it was, but I do not. I'm using this to begin working my way through the Birthday candle challenge!

Hayjay315 | 465 comments I made the mistake of starting this today over my lunch break and I wished I had nothing to do but keep reading. Emmy is a delightful character and made me feel like I was sitting with a friend sipping tea and listening to her tell a story.

Theresa | 15750 comments Oh I almost started it late last night! But made some progress in Lex Miz instead as well as Longbourn which is really sucking me in.

I also fear getting caught up and not having the blocks of time to read it before Friday!

But so pleased it is charming you, HayJay!

Amy | 12982 comments I just saw this in a bookstore. One of my favorite book stores, and I thought of you three. Even for a split second I thought of buying it and joining you. In the end, I settled with happy place, because I’ve been on my library queue for a long time, and I wanted to read it this summer, because I felt like a summer read. I also bought the first ladies, and there is an online book group for that in September.

Karin | 9277 comments I read this in 2020 and gave it 3 stars, so will pass, but I hope you enjoy it! Many people like it better than I did, but I did like it.

Booknblues | 12211 comments I started reading. Emmy Lake is a bit over the top but I've known people like her.

Jen K | 3171 comments I will start this one tonight!

Theresa | 15750 comments I think I will start tonight as well, or latest tomorrow.

Booknblues | 12211 comments I'm enjoying the characters and the dilemma.

Booknblues | 12211 comments I've finished this sweet little book which reminds me of what it is like to be young and impulsive.

Jen K | 3171 comments Emmy is over the top in a fun way. The book is adorable so far. I'm over halfway and trying desperately to choose chores over finishing it. :)

It is one of those books which is a breeze to read.

Agree about Emmy.

Theresa | 15750 comments I finally have started it - it is a delight! Emmy is irrepressible...at least as of Ch. 3. Somehow I think that is a core character trait.

One of the books I just finished was set in England. just after WWI - 1921/22. After posting the review I started Mrs. Bird. Had some confusion for a few pages as to which war I was reading about.😏

All set now though.

Theresa | 15750 comments Oh and I love that they had Mrs. Bird's employment confirmation letter look like it actually was typed on a manual typewriter.

Theresa | 15750 comments I closed down work early to finish reading this. I just loved it. How the author managed to have me smile and feel delighted yet all while knowing heartbreak was inevitable ... after all it was the Blitz. Bravo that she did not shirk at delivering it.

Oh and moral dilemma? For sure!

Will write my review later. I already plan to pass my copy on to a friend and I will read more in the series.

I am also having one of those synchronicity in reading moments. The collection Kitchen Essays by Agnes Jekyll which I just finished and reviewed, could very easily have been a collection of those Hot Pot columns, though from the early 1920s. I also started a collection of short stories written by a woman correspondent based in London during WWII that tell the plight of ordinary women coping during the war - Good Evening, Mrs Craven: The Wartime Stories of Mollie Panter-Downes.

Booknblues | 12211 comments So glad you enjoyed this Theresa!

Mrs. Bird is of Jekyll's era, but I hope that both those sisters were kinder than her.
