Write here which book would you like to read in October.

The full list of VMC books you can find on our to-read shelf.

For the sake of diversity, please don't nominate books from previous poll, that is:
Good Behaviour by Molly Keane
South Riding by Winifred Holtby
On the Side of the Angels by Betty Miller
Mary Anne by Daphne du Maurier
The Ghostly Lover by Elizabeth Hardwick.
You will be able to nominate them again after a month.

You can nominate 1 or 2 books. The rest of the rules you can find here.

Absolutely a beautiful story. And very true.

Please choose which one you would prefer to nominate, JosephineBookwyrm, "The Street" or "The Narrows" by Ann Petry.

If no one else will nominate another book to Sunday (20th August) I will add to the poll two of your nominations (one by Ann Petry, one by Dorothy West).

JosephineBookwyrm | 22 comments Okay, Mela. Sorry - I’m getting used to the nomination process! “The Street” is shorter so I’ll nominate that one. “The Narrows” is over 500 pages long.

Loved it two years ago. Confirmed most of my apprehensions about religion.

I read it too. And it was a personal, emotional reading to me (I grew up in a Catholic country). One of my favourite books.

I loved it too although the details around Catholicism were completely new to me and quite alien, so look forward to getting your perspective on White's story.
