I think I have found an abridged version of about 130 pages that will work. It is from 1921 and the Herder Book Company, St. Louis, MO. Translator E.J. Strickland and edited by Rev. J. Ramière. Here are two publishers you can choose from. I am sure there are others, since this is in the public domain.
Dover has an ebook and print edition which is very reasonable. The ebook version is also available on hoopla for anyone who wants to borrow from the local library.

The same translation is also used by TAN Books, though it is a bit more expensive.

I will post a reading schedule within the next few days.

I have that edition on my Kindle, too. I might have to miss this group reading this time around, but I'll follow along with the thread. I just recently finished St. Augustine's Concessions but not The City of God.

Oh you reminded me. I still have to finish the City of God final chapter. I read it. I just have to summarize it.

Every Chapter is roughly 20 pages, which seems a good pace.
