The iZombie series premieres tonight (3/17/15) on CW. Will you be watching? What do you think?

Amber Rellim (AmberRellim) | 6 comments To be honest, I'm not really sure. I actually just finished watching Walking Dead and I still need to let that episode sink in a little bit longer :X

Veronica (readingonthefly) That TWD episode was harsh. Yikes!

I watched iZombie last night. It was cute, enough for me to watch more episodes.

Laura (theloudlady) | 180 comments I am a huge Veronica Mars fan & I absolutely loved the first episode of iZombie. Not a huge fan of the title though.

Even my SO who is not a Mars fan stated: " This is actually very well done."

message 5: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I've heard that although the series is not based on it, the series is almost exactly like My Life as a White Trash Zombie. Go about halfway through this video and she describes the differences/stolen characters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdiVz...

Amber Rellim (AmberRellim) | 6 comments I'll have to check that out with the youtube review link you placed. But its funny that you said that, because when I heard about this show I was thinking to myself about that book with Diana Rowland.

My first thoughts were that it was well written and produced. The pilot episode is almost always the worst one of a series, so it's rare that I give anything a thumbs up so quickly. Very smart and adorable, but with less of the teen angst BS you usually get on CW. More of a Dead Like Me FML or Supernatural vibe than Veronica Mars, at least to me.

My second thoughts were OMG DOES EVERY SHOW ON TELEVISION HAVE TO BE MONSTER HUNTERS, A MEDICAL DRAMA OR A POLICE PROCEDURAL! THIS ONE MANAGES TO BE ALL THREE AT THE SAME TIME!!! GAAARGH!

Still gonna watch it though. Has anyone read the comics to compare the two? iZombie, Vol. 1

Laurel I want to watch it, but I know that Diana Rowland (author of White Trash Zombie) is trying to get some recourse for the potential infringement on her books, and I want to be a loyal fan. Supporting the show seems like supporting plagiarism.

Also, I loved the first collected graphic novel and the description of the show seems nothing like original work.

But, I guess people probably want zombie Veronica Mars.

iZombie, Vol. 1 started 2010, My Life as a White Trash Zombie was 2011, and the movie Warm Bodies was 2013 it's no surprise that people might get confused with the source material. Wikipedia and IMDb cite the DC/Vertigo comic as the sole basis for the show, but there are a lot of elements that seem to be lifted right out of MLaaWTZ. My guess is there will be a lawsuit at some point.
The YouTube review starts at 13:45 btw. https://youtu.be/AdiVzqfQxlg?t=13m43s

Amber Rellim (AmberRellim) | 6 comments I see, but isn't it crazy that with the story of iZombie that came out before the white trash zombie book that they would actually grab almost the exact same plot of that book then the comic? I mean, whose in charge and what they heck were they thinking? Both stories sound great, I just don't understand why they couldn't stick with the original.

Laurel I think both the book and comic are their own thing, the issue being raised is with the TV show. The comic is a complete hoot!

Amber Rellim (AmberRellim) | 6 comments Sorry sorry, I meant exactly that. You have two good separate stories going on. Then when you think one of them is getting turned into a show, you find out that they did this turn around. I wonder how both creators feel about this. They should get together and bring this issue up. Curious to see what happens next.

Cas (elventempest) | 90 comments I read the book and I love the show so far. I do not think its similar in terms of anything but her work. And even that isn't exactly the same. I don't know, I'm not at all informed legally on this but I won't stop loving a show because of it. Don't think I can. But I hope it's worked out if the author feels ripped off, but I think there's always such a fine line... Nothing new under the sun. Nasty business.
Anyway! I still think it's a brilliant show and anyone who's thinking of watching should give it a try.

message 14: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I've watched the show and there is only the job that is kind of similar to White Trash Zombie Apocalypse, and even that in izombie she's a doctor not just an assistant. I like the series so far.
