I also loved middle-grade books with a little romance:) I just read few of them but I heard some of it. What about keeper of the lost series. I heard there's a little bit romance:)
Ooo! I'm also curious about this because I am currently writing one! I will be watching to see what suggestions people have.
Thanks ,kotls is on my tbr:) i love romance and ships in general and I always enjoy middle grade books with them becuase often times it's very sweet and innocent.I know the once upon of time series by james riley fits the criteria and harry potter obvs.I also really like the The lunar chronicles which is YA but feels like the cusp between middle grade and YA

I like to read middle grade books with romance with it:) I'll comment here if I found another middle grade book about romance.
Echoing Keeper of the Lost Cities! Although I'm not sure it would count as "small subplot" since the ships kind of become a big part of the series

There aren’t many middle grades with romance subplots that I’ve come across although it might be easier to find if you look amongst upper middle grade books.
I would recommend the Blackthorn Key series. No spoilers but the character friendships are fantastic and from book 2 it blossoms into something really special. The romance is subtle but totally there

Something like Percy Jackson, The school for Good and evil, or even Wings of Fire which I love has small romances for all characters. I'm also a huge fan of E.D. Baker(who wrote
