Kagari swung upside down on a tree branch, thinking. She was usually like this, pensive and detached. She sighed in frustration as the jumble of thoughts in her mind whirled around.
Nate walked calmly down the side of the river, fumbling idly with his thumbs as he stared down into the water in deep thought, not even noticing Kagari as he walked. He was much to preoccupied with his own thoughts to even care about those around him. Even so, he was under the impression that he was alone, as not many people took long walks by the river at such a late hour of the night.
Kagari didn't faze as Nate walked by, however she did address him to see what he thought of her new idea "What would we do if the Kings were overthrown?"
Nate stopped, gazing at her blankly, "Anarchy" he replied simply, pausing, "And also establish a new justice based system revolving around democracy. In the end it would all boil back done to a monarchy or a communism once more" he added.
Kagari opened her eyes and Looked at the complete stranger "And then history would repeat itself". So her predictions had been right. She smiled at the boy cheerily "Thank you for your input" she said gratefully while still hanging upside down.
Nate raised an eyebrow faintly, that one gesture seeming to be the only sign of expression on his face, "It wasn't input. It was a sincere prediction. Might even be a warning." he continued. "Overthrowing any of the Ills would be not only difficult, but insanely unintelligent." he continued.
Kagari thought about it for a bit and then nodded in agreement "True, but considering the sheer number of rebels, I think it's fair to say that it would be even. Joining any side would be unintelligent"
Nate sighed and rolled his eyes, "You obviously aren't thinking of the big picture. We have limited resources as it is. Starting a war would diminish resources, even the winning side will wish they hadn't won in the first place. Considering what little would be left." he pointed out.
Kagari nodded "I know that, but their lust for power would drive them to only think of the power and not the long term affects on them awe as their surrounding habitat"
Nate thought for a moment, "I've personally met several of them. I've never sensed a lust for power. More so, a lust for balance." he murmured, "Perhaps you should try and be less... ruthless. Critical thinking might be the best aspect of a plan to overthrow anything" he replied blankly.
Kagari's friendly demeanour vanished "So you're on their side then" she said as she was reminded of all the bad things they'd don to her.
Nate sat on the river side, though it seemed more like a crouch. "I am on no one's side. I was simply smart enough to win the favor of the winning one." He retorted calmly.
She crossed her arms "Uhu, suuuure"
Nate didn't seem fazed by her blatant taunting, and continued to toy with the sand, soon forming a castle.
Kagari frowned "Why independent if you have the favour of the winning side?"
"I would describe it as a mutual standpoint.. If need be, the stronger side will protect me. They are my pawns" he explained.
Kagari raised an eyebrow in pure curiosity "And what if they don't?"
Kagari was intrigued "And what makes you such an important asset?" she asked.
"Why are you asking these questions?" he narrowed his eyes, analyzing her. "You hold a grudge against the Ills" he added, drawing something into the castle, "Based on your quickness to change demeanor, I'm going to make a long shot and say it has something to do with your parents." he made a jagged line at the front of the castle.
Kagari nodded "Yes I do and it does have something to do with my family, however I don't aimlessly rush to the enemy hoping the lust of vengeance is all I'll need to overthrow them like all the others of the Anarchy. I need to analyse them carefully before solidly choosing a side:
Nate raised an eyebrow, "That wasn't your opinion a few moments ago" he murmured, "It seemed my logistics have made an impression on you." he said, beginning to shape little people into the sand.
She shrugged "I will join the safest side, however my grudge will have to wait till this war is over"
Nate shook his head, "The political war will never end" he took a few dominoes out of his pockets and began to stack them around the castle, "I've never cared for politics. Redundant things never catch my interest." he added.
Kagari swung herself up onto the branch and leant against the trunk "Suit yourself stranger"
"Near." he corrected. "We are acquaintances. Being a stranger would imply that I haven't met you at all. Which is wrong, assuming that we did meet just a few moments ago." he explained.
She shrugged as she pulled an apple out of her pocket "Whatever title suits you better, and if you use the term acquaintance as a noun it would imply that we're not friends, however work toward the same goal, which we evidently do not" she said before biting into her apple.
Nate placed each of the dominoes up in a symmetrical system, "On the contrary. Considering we both have the goal of setting balance and receiving justice...I'd say we've got the same goals in one way or another." He placed the last domino down, "I will do what I need to in order to set balance. Even if it means overthrowing a few kings" he said calmly, tipping the domino and watching as they all fell in unison, crushing the tiny sand king and queen.
Kagari tilted her head "How are you so good at reading people? I have a feeling it has to do with your powers"
Nate finally glanced over at her, "What if I don't have any powers? Would that make you pity me?" he asked, tilting his head and narrowing his eyes. "It would seem so, given the world we live in" he murmured, picking the dominoes up.
Kagari shook her head "If I pitied every disadvantaged personn I met, I would have none left"
Nate didn't reply, making a mental note of that. "You're so keen on this overthrowing plan... I understand that the best way to predict the future is by creating it, but is it really freedom you're after? Or are you looking for power yourself?" he asked.
Valerie bit the apple "None of the above. I'm looking for vengeance and justice for the crimes both sides have committed. The Kings have killed innocent people, but how many spiders of theirs have died? Think about their families"
"Vengeance clouds your judgment... don't fuddle your loss with a lack of justice. You weren't well off as a child were you?" he asked.
"No I wasn't" she said, protectively tightening her jacket to obscure the scars on her back.
Nate gazed at her, flashing her a devious, yet someone charming grin that seemed more mocking than anything, "How can you tell what's right and wrong? Who gave you that right? Playing god in a situation doesn't help anything, and it certainly wont get you justice. Maybe satisfaction. But in the long run, how do you know that killing them was right? Your parents were good people I assume? Yet they were not well off. This is a fish eat fish eat world. If you can't play the game, and you can't solve the puzzle, then you're just another loser" he said coldly.
Kagari looked down "And you think I don't already know that?" she asked quietly "and my parents weren't good people. They were the polar opposite. In a way, they deserved to die" she hugged her knees "but they were all I had"
"So is this really justice, or is this self justification?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her. Obviously you didn't know that he thought.
She looked at her apple in disgust and threw it to the ground "Probably both"
"I feel as though the hatred you feel for all of these kings, is a reflection of how you feel towards yourself." he said calmly, blankly glancing at her once more, "And you do realize that not all of the are like that right? Only a select few legitimately enjoy murdering people." he added.
She peered at him "And do you fall in that category of the legitimate few who enjoy murder?"
"Hmmmm. I'm not a King. I don't fall in either category" he retorted blankly, not necessarily answering her question.
"You don't need to be a King to enjoy murder" she said matter of factly.
"That is correct." he replied, suddenly smashing the castle, beginning to create something else. "But you don't need to be in power to be powerful" he said matter of factly.
With her suspicion confirmed, she put her hands on the hilts of her blades protectively "I know that" she said in a nonchalant tone.
Kagari frowned slightly "Quite. I am curious as to why you have made no move to injure me at the very least"
"I don't see the point of it." he replied, "You wouldn't be a very unique catch. Nor would you be able to assist me in any of my cases." he replied blankly.
Kagari smiled "I don't know whether to be grateful or offended"
