I finally made the connection the same time Sam did, after talking with Lyra's friends. All the pieces were there, I just didn't put it all together.
My bad to fall asleep just about when this big scene was unfolding. I wondered how I could have "skipped" so many pages in a Kindle when I was sleeping!
When Flynn's guys were arrested for shooting at Lyra & Sam at the park, the cops were trying to tie Flynn to Lyra unsuccessfully. Mr. Merriam never said anything about Flynn or hiring more henchmen. At about the halfway mark of the book, I figured someone else had asked Flynn to get rid of Lyra and the obvious person was Professor Mahler.
I knew there were two different scenarios and groups wanting Lyra dead for entirely different reasons. I slowly came together for me over the course of the book. I figured early on that something was off with the professor - the one thing I didn't think about was that he killed his wife.
I never thought about the Professor killing his wife either, Sandra. I remember someone saying his wife had left him and I didn't give it another thought.
I didn't think about her leaving him either. All the pieces were there I just didn't put it together.
I didn't connect Mahler until Sam did. As I mentioned before, he reminded me of one of my professors. I kept thinking about all the work I did and how he complained. I was waiting for Lyra's final grade.
How will the students in Mahler's classes get final grades? Will the other teachers review his students and award grades?

Another professor took over. He averaged the grades before with what he gave us. Honestly, I think he was easy on the class. I didn't complain, but I loved our original instructor.
