That First Mistake by Avril Ashton. Not technically forbidden, more like taboo. She breaks up with her boyfriend but becomes attracted to his father.Anton by Brenda Rothert. The heroine is married and hero is her husband's teammate. He has loved her from afar -- unrequited -- for years. He befriends her and becomes a support system as she gets out of her abusive marriage.
Hero by Lauren Rowe. The heroine is the hero's Physical Therapist and their romance is forbidden while he is her patient.
Illegally Yours by Kate Meader. The heroine's sister is going through a divorce. The hero is her brother-in-law's divorce lawyer. So their getting together would be a conflict of interest.
The One You Fight For by Roni Loren. Not really forbidden but kinda taboo. The heroine's sister was killed in a school mass shooting. The hero's brother was one of the shooters. His family has been outcast because of it. The book takes place many years later but her parents haven't moved on and the sister's death have kind taken over their lives.
The first two books in Alyssa Cole's Loyal League series. Ser during the Civil war features black women spies An Extraordinary Union and A Hope Divided.
Forgive Me Father For I Have Loved By Tiana Laveen. Dude is a priest, yo. That's pretty forbidden. LOL
Strange Little Band: Two psychics. One mega-corp. All-around bad behavior. by nancy Brauer. This is sci-fi romance set in a dystopian future where everyone is controlled by a corporation. The heroine is a top-tier psychic the hero is half alien. The company wants a child of both of their DNA and the heroine if forbidden to tell the hero. This is a true enemies-to-lovers romance with lots of manipulation and backstabbing by the corporation (to keep them in line) and each other to get the upper hand. It isn't a hearts and flowers romance at all, but I remember loving it because it was a little off the rails and very different.
@Tina “Forgive me father for I have loved” is literally one of my favorite books. Never found anything like it again. I wish I could. The ones I find are literally about WW written by WW so I’m not interested. I just want unambiguous BW as my heroines. 😭😭😭
