I'm about 30% in. Its okay so far, but can't say its amazing...I mean I like the snarky cat narration haha. Haven't cried yet.
I'm also about a chapter in! my minds been wandering a lot lately haha, but so far I'm following the world building
All good. I read the second chapter last night...so not a lot of progress lol. But, the world is interesting and I do like the writing too.
Same I’ve been wandering mentally as well Bella !!Kinda sounds like hunger games a little bit (I hope)
Sorry girls, I haven't picked thid back up in a couple of days, but aiming to do that this weekend.I did finish Fourth Wing as I finally got the audiobook from my library. Unfortunately, the hype wasn't real for me lol. Enjoyed some bits of it, but overall wasn't great.
Oh that’s too bad Corina! Honestly by the time you read it the hype was probably TOO big you know? I loved it but everyone has their own book taste too lol :) I haven’t picked this one up at all I was on my way to a reading slump so I had to pick something non fantasy like up and read it and now I’m ready to pick this one up again so I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Wbu Bella?
Lol..true. I settled on a 2.5 rounded up to 3. But yeah, for me, not enough world building, too predictable and the writing wasn't great. Happy for everyone who loved it :)Aiming to pick this one back up in the weekend, fingers crossed :)
Hey I don’t think I’m gonna finish this one…. I just can’t get into it. I think I need a break from fantasy before I get in a slump again maybe something a little suspenseful/mystery ?
Hey, no worries at all, Courtney! Sometimes, you just need to switch things up. I did get some reading done this weekend, so I'm about chapter 7, page 100 on this one. I will continue with it.I'm also keen on suspensful/mystery. Any ideas? I did start All the sinners bleed, not too far into it, but its more of a dark thriller.
Lol...if you're not feeling it, I would just leave it. Don't force yourself if you're not in the mood. You can always come back to it.
hey guys, I'm sorry, I haven't been reading that much lately. I got caught up in the tropical storm that's hitting Cali this weekend! I'm probably going to read more tomorrow
it was a little hard to follow in the beginning actually, but I started to understand the different perspectives after a few chapters! still a little confused though haha.
I hope your safe Bella! I know way too well how bad a tropical storm or hurricane can be!! ❤️❤️ keep us updated!
Oh no, sounds terrifying! Hope both you and your family are keeping safe, Bella! No worries, there is no rush and we can always choose another. Take care and keep us posted.
thank you! ❤️ Courtney, I don't know how you guys do it!! it's been scary, especially since I'm from a desert area where on average we get like 3" of rain a year and now we're getting flash floods! my family is all safe, thankfully :) I'll probably keep reading this one but I'm also open to picking up another if you guys would like!
Glad to hear eveyone is safe, Bella! We had a cyclone in February and though it didn't hit us as hard as other regions, it was still scary. What would you be more keen on? Its so hard to pick when having too many lol.
Thanks Corina :) That does sound scary! I'm happy to start anything :) I know a while back we had talked about As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow, and I think it'll be available to borrow at my library in the next few days! I'm also open to anything else lol
Yeah, weather can be scary.I've actually read it, sorry. But its a good one, definitely recommend. Sad though.
Im glad to hear everything is okay bella! It’s definitely nerve wracking to say the least esp with all the crap going on in CA :( As the Lemon Tree Grows is still on my TBR - there are a lot of good books coming out this fall too btw!
I def really need to go through my TBRs for this next season to get organized!
I think I'm suffering from decision fatigue lol...its so hard to choose. A few non fantasy books that come to mind: Pachinko, Wayward, Beasts of a little land, The cuckoo's calling, The secret history.
Those all sound good and most are on my TBR as well The last one left by Riley Sager is supposed to be good
And Ashley Winstead or something has a new one out I heard was good….
The Invisible Hour
I definitely want to read the new Ashley Winstead one. I'm not sure if Riley Sager is the author for me lol. I read a couple of his books and didn't blow me away.
Ya I’ve never read anything by them so I don’t know I just kept seeing that book on my page lol :) I’m definitely with you because although I have like 50 fantasy reads to get into, I need a change of pace for a few or I’m gonna slump again
I get the need to change pace, for sure. I've tried Final girls and Home Before Dark by Riley Sager anf they were just okay for me. I know his books can be hit or miss, so I'm not as drawn to pick them up lol.
I just don't like how Riley Sager writes female characters. while I was reading, I mistakenly assumed the author was a woman but after we got to know the female lead more, I was like, no woman acts like this!! and then I found out Riley is a man lol.
Oh yeah, that would not sit well with me. Thanks for giving me a heads up guys cause I definitely was going to put a hold on it just off of everybody else’s enjoyment of the book. Lol.
honestly Courtney that was probably one of my main issues! I would still give his books a chance! I've also been wanting to pick up Lock Every Door (I think that's what it's called) just to give it a try since it sounds interesting and I like haunted house books lol
The Bandit Queens is one that looks interesting to me, I think it's supposed to be similar to Finlay Donovan in the husband-murdering-contract-killer sort of way
I put a hold on The Invisible Hour by Alize Hoffman, but it looks like it'll take a few weeks to get to me
Yeah I mean I guess I could see where an author would maybe write a female protagonist but I want to know that they did some really good research for the work and I don’t want it to sound like exactly what you said like they know what a woman would say or think, or feel about a subject, because unless you are a woman, you do not know. But the photos bug sound really interesting. I’m gonna give him a look up as soon as I get to the house and put them on a my reserve list. I definitely want to kinda read something for the spooky season coming up. I’m not a huge Dasinger fan but I’m definitely interested and suspenseful and thriller kinds of books and I don’t know if I’ve ever read a haunted house book as an adult so I’m willing to definitely give that a chance. Lol.
The Alice Hoffman book is going to be a minute for me too! I just went ahead and put myself on the list cause I already knew lolThere are so many good books coming out this year. I am so excited.
My library doesn't yet have the Alice Hoffman book, but I requested it...it will probably take a couple of months lol. I did hear about The bandit queens, I think my library has it.
Yeah, I would give Riley Sager a go just to see for yourself. Lock every door is probably the only one that I would still try from him.
Maybe I will finally get to Empire of the vampire this fall...being ambitious hahaha
yes Courtney, exactly! it can get very frustrating trying to read something you have first-hand knowledge of (like a home town, your ethnicity, and even your gender) and find someone completely missing the mark of what it's like to live with those things.as for haunted house books, I loved Mexican Gothic! I'm pretty biased though as I related to it a lot culturally lol. I'm also hoping on reading The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas which is also supposed to give that vibe. I just read What Moves The Dead, and while it wasn't my favorite Kingfisher book, I did enjoy it.
another that I'm excited to pick up because of the movie is called The Cabin At The End Of The World (I think).
But definitely open to reading a spooky/thriller if you both have any in mind :)
Speaking of first hand knowledge, have you guys read Yellowface? I'm quite reluctant to pick it up as I'm not a fan of satire, but I did see good reviews. I have so many Silvia Moreno Garcia books on my TBR lol...I need to get to them. I've requested The Hacienda with my library but who knows. I think she has another book The Vampires of el Norte coming out too. I do like T Kingfisher though What Moved the Dead was middle of the road for me. I will have a look for spooky/thriller and see what I find :)
I have seen a lot about Yellowface and I'm interested! Yes, I have The Vampires sitting at home too :)
My library has the audio for Yellowface so maybe I will give it a go. But I'm reluctant lol...also because I feel like she is sometimes too on the nose with certain things, just like in Babel as well.Anyway, founds a few books that could potentially be spooky or thriller or both haha
