Frank T Bird (franktbird) | 2 comments Hello, all.
I don't know if anyone is even listening in this group anymore. I just needed somewhere to write something about Of Mice and Men. It's the first Steinbeck I've read (Having stubbornly avoided him until the age of 46). I read it in two hours. Now I'm wondering what to read next. I've ordered East of Eden and The Grapes of Wrath online. I know they have The Pearl and Cannery Row at my local bookshop, so I will be heading back there tomorrow. Any ideas about where to go next?
I enjoyed Of Mice and Men. I could analyse what I just read, but rather I will just say that somehow he made the potentially horrendous ending a moment of love, friendship and beauty. I'm not sure how he achieved that, but I feel affected by it.
That's all I think.
I hope someone hears this.
Frank

Thanks a lot, Mate. I did exactly that. I went to The Pearl, then Cannery Row. Just started East of Eden, and it's so different.
Cannery Row is quite refreshing compared to the others lol, but the detail in East of Eden is astonishing. The depth of the characters is really hard to fathom.
