I have read several books about WWII. However, this book was about something I had never heard of. During WWII, Himmler established birth houses for girls and women. Those of the "ideal race" were encouraged to have as many children as they could, married or not. They also opened birth houses in occupied countries for girls who had gotten pregnant by German soldiers. The babies born in these houses were either taken by their German or Nazi fathers or adopted out to Nazi families. Thousands of mothers and babies were separated. This book is a fictional account of girl who lived in one of these houses. A very interesting read and a new facet (to me) of the story of WWII.
