1. Phantom of Opera
The Phantom of the Opera is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe and a libretto by Lloyd Webber and Stilgoe. Based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, it tells the story of a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, masked musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opéra House.

2. Kinky Boots
Kinky Boots is a musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, and mostly inspired by true events, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price. Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. It made its Broadway debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013.

3. Les Misérables
Les Misérables is a musical based on the 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. It made its Broadway debut in 1987. Set in early 19th-century France, the musical tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption, released after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. Valijean breaks parole and is chased throughout the play by the police and he gets caught up with young idealists who are trying to overthrow Paris.

4. Wicked
Wicked is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, in turn based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film adaptation. The show is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy Gale arrives in Oz from Kansas. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (later Glinda the Good Witch), whose relationship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, same love interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's fall from grace.

5. Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz is a 2011 musical based on The Wizard of Oz 1939 original film, as well as L Frank Baum’s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dorothy goes over the rainbow after a tornado and finds herself in a wonderful new world full of color and meets the Lion, Scarecrow and the Tin Man and of course Munchkins, witches and Wizard of Oz as she travels the yellow brick road.

6. Rent
Rent is a rock musical with music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson.The musical is loosely based on the 1896 opera La bohème by Giacomo Puccini, Luigi Illica, and Giuseppe Giacosa, which in turn is based on the 1851 novel Scenes of Bohemian Life by Henri Murger. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in Lower Manhattan's East Village in the thriving days of bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS

7. Mama Mia
Mamma Mia is a musical based on songs recorded by Swedish group ABBA. The musical is set on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi, 20-year-old Sophie is preparing to marry her fiancé, Sky. and wants her father to walk her down the aisle but does not know who he is. After reading an old diary of her mothers she realizes three men could be the missing Dad and sends invites to her wedding supposedly from Donna her mother. All three men accept and the rest of the musical is the wedding planning and falling in love and following dreams.

8. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a musical based on the 1964 children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. The musical met with mixed reviews but personally I thought it was great. The story is of Charlie Bucket, poor boy who doesn't have enough to eat buys and wins a chance to go into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

9. Chicago
Chicago is a 1975 American musical. Set in Chicago in the jazz age, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about actual criminals and crimes on which she reported. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the "celebrity criminal".

10 My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady. Despite his cynical nature and difficulty understanding women, Higgins grows attached to her. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a notable critical and popular success, winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It set a record for the longest run of any musical on Broadway up to that time and was followed by a hit London production. Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews starred in both productions.

11. Oklahoma
Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie.

12. Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon is a stage musical that is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's 1904 opera Madama Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The setting of the plot is 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, and is about a romance between a United States Marine and a seventeen-year-old South Vietnamese bargirl.

13. Guys and Dolls
Guys and Dolls was conceived by producers Cy Feuer and Ernest Martin as an adaptation of Damon Runyon's short stories. These stories, written in the 1920s and 1930s, concerned gangsters, gamblers, and other characters of the New York underworld. The show premiered on Broadway in 1950, where it ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway and London revivals, as well as a 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.

14. Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar is a sung-through rock opera which interprets the psychology of Jesus and other characters, with much of the plot centered on Judas, who is dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus is steering his disciples. Contemporary attitudes, sensibilities and slang pervade the rock opera's lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events. Stage and film productions accordingly contain many intentional anachronisms.

15. Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot: The Musical is a coming-of-age stage musical based on the 2000 film of the same name and with the music by Elton John. The plot revolves around Billy, a motherless British boy who begins taking ballet lessons. The story of his personal struggle and fulfilment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the 1984–85 UK miners' strike in County Durham, in North East England.

16. Grease
Grease is a musical that is set in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School. The musical follow the T-Birds and Pink Ladies as they explore love, friendship, teenage rebellion and sexual exploration. The show mentions social issues such as teenage pregnancy, peer pressure, and gang violence.

17. Cabaret
Cabaret is a 1966 musical which is set in 1929–1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age as the Nazis are ascending to power. The musical focuses on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around American writer Clifford Bradshaw's relations with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles. A subplot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor.

18. Jersey Boys
Jersey Boys is a jukebox musical. It is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and breakup of the 1960s rock 'n' roll group The Four Seasons. The musical is structured as four "seasons", each narrated by a different member of the band who gives his own perspective on its history and music.

The story tells about her story, and the evil couple who pretend they are her parents for the reward money.

20. The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music is a musical that is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children.

A Chorus Line provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer, as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.

Hello, Dolly! is a 1964 musical based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955. The musical follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, New York, to find a match for the miserly "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder.

26. West Side Story
West Side Story is Inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the story is set in the mid-1950s in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City, then a multiracial, blue-collar neighborhood. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The Sharks, who are recent migrants from Puerto Rico, and the Jets, who are white, vie for dominance of the neighborhood, and the police try to keep order. 30. Come From Away
Come from Away is based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on (and in most cases share the names of) actual Gander residents and stranded travelers they housed and fed. The musical has been received by audiences and critics as a cathartic reminder of the capacity for human kindness in even the darkest of times and the triumph of humanity over hate.

The Phantom of the Opera is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe and a libretto by Lloyd Webber and Stilgoe. 2. Kinky Boots
Kinky Boots is a musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, and mostly inspired by true events, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price. Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. It made its Broadway debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013.

3. Les Misérables
Les Misérables is a musical based on the 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. It made its Broadway debut in 1987. Set in early 19th-century France, the musical tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption, released after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. Valijean breaks parole and is chased throughout the play by the police and he gets caught up with young idealists who are trying to overthrow Paris.

4. Wicked
Wicked is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, in turn based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film adaptation. The show is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy Gale arrives in Oz from Kansas. Mamma Mia is a musical based on songs recorded by Swedish group ABBA. After reading an old diary of her mothers she realizes three men could be the missing Dad and sends invites to her wedding supposedly from Donna her mother. All three men accept and the rest of the musical is the wedding planning and falling in love and following dreams.

The story is of Charlie Bucket, poor boy who doesn't have enough to eat buys and wins a chance to go into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

9. Chicago
Chicago is a 1975 American musical. Set in Chicago in the jazz age, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about actual criminals and crimes on which she reported. 10 My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion. Despite his cynical nature and difficulty understanding women, Higgins grows attached to her.
