I loved the cat in this story! So glad you liked it Joy, an all time favorite of his that I recommend all the time
Loved the cat! If I ever get a male cat, I may name him Small Frank. Haha. I have two females at the moment. I enjoy Patrick deWitt's writings. I've also enjoyed The Sisters Brothers, Ablutions, and The Librarianist.

Absurdist tragicomedy about widow Frances Price, her adult son Malcolm, and their cat Small Frank (which she believes to hold the spirit of her late husband). A social scandal and a pending bankruptcy prompt the pair to move to France (hence the title) to live in the apartment of her only friend. The narrative follows their journey, during which they meet a variety of quirky characters. It is a bizarre story that showcases the dark humor that Patrick deWitt writes so well. As the narrative progresses, it gets more farcical. The people in this book are rather unpleasant and as the story goes along, the reader understands more about the reasons underlying their behavior. The cat is exceptional.
