Colleen (tropesandtomes) | 18 comments Starting it now! I’m using audible (works best with three kiddos running wild LOL). The sample was great. I can’t wait to get into it!

CJ | 3 comments I hate that I didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to. I think going from Fourth Wing to Divine Rivals was a hard adjustment. It’s written beautifully and slow paced - maybe just a little too YA for my liking. I’m excited to read the second book though!

so i've actually already finished divine rivals (binged it in just a few days) and absolutely loved it! definitely 5 stars for me!

my spoiler-free thoughts: i absolutely adored the pining and the longing strung throughout the story. i think rebecca ross did a beautiful job of showing rather than telling in this story; i truly felt like i was experiencing the events of the story alongside roman and iris.

i think the magic system was super interesting, and i loved the backstory with the typewriters.

one thing that surprised me was just how heavy the war aspect of the story felt. i definitely think the novel could be considered adult rather than YA just in regards to how graphic some of those scenes were.

DON'T READ PAST THIS POINT IF YOU'RE NOT FINISHED:

WHEN ROMAN RAN TO IRIS IN THE FIELD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY AND WHEN HE CRAWLED TO HER IN THE SAME FIELD AT THE END???? the full-circle nature of that scene broke me into a million pieces. i'm absolutely petrified for roman in the second book, and i would love to punch iris' brother in the face. i understand that he got caught up in things in a way he didn't intend to, but he acted so selfishly that i'm really not looking forward to more of his character in ruthless vows.

i hope that we get a more flushed out history of the gods in ruthless vows as well. the research that iris and roman were doing on their history was one of my favorite aspects of divine rivals.

i can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks!

Savannah Shreve Divine RivalsI finished this last night and WOW I loved every bit of it. I agree with Ashley above - the war aspect actually had me feeling quite tense and anxious at times so upon finishing the book I was surprised it was labeled YA. I am in between rating this 4.5 to 5 stars currently but my review will be posted on my profile WITH spoiler alerts so don’t go searching for it unless you wanted to be spoiled ;P I can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts!!

Morgan | 23 comments I couldn’t agree more with the above. I just finished it and really enjoyed it. I definitely got anxious at times which made me set the book down a lot, but still 100% worth the read. I also would like the see more fleshing out the gods history.

Will be purchasing the second book.

Amanda | 51 comments Solid 4 stars. I think just because the setting and concept it was so different than my normal ‘fantasy’ reads that it took me a minute, but as I hit 2/3 of the book I really started to get into the emotion and the drama of the war and Roman and Iris. This may weirdly just be me, but besides the typewriter magic and references to the gods, the fantasy aspect fell very far in the background and it almost felt like I was reading a historical fiction novel so threw me off at first. I really liked the growth of the Iris and Roman connection and the ending twist was fantastic. Overall I really liked this book, and will definitely read the sequel!

Honestly I think that if I had not read a few books between Fourth Wing and Divine Rivals I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did because of the Fourth Wing withdrawl.

Jane (janeelenor) | 10 comments I loved this book. The banter between the two MCs and the conversations through the letters had me BLUSHING & GIGGLING FR!! I love the dynamic between them and the way they value each others intelligence. I wish there was more background or myths about the Gods, but I am still happy with what was written. I can't wait to read the next book!!

Liz | 9 comments I really loved this book! It felt like a breath of fresh air after reading a bunch of darker fantasy lol. I loved the world building and the way we only knew what the characters did. It really added to the story and them being journalists, like we were experiencing the front alongside them.

I loved Iris and Roman, but I feel like their relationship was a little rushed. They are both such charming and REAL characters that are easy to connect to, and they both go through these independent journeys with grief, healing, and self acceptance. The pacing of their relationship to me ends up overshadowing that growth, and so many other details (and side characters) are skimmed over for the sake of romance. I understand why it eventually was rushed (war and all), but I feel like the ending could have had the same effect if their relationship had been more fleshed out but not progressed as far. (If that makes any sense)

It was written so beautifully it made me forget about most of that though while reading lol. I will 100% be reading the sequel.

I agree with most of you that this book is different than the typical fantasy books that we read! If we're honest, it's borderline urban fantasy, too. Just a touch of magic really... Regardless, I do enjoy it! I'm about half-way done and really like the way the author has developed both Roman and Iris. (:

Frances | 1 comments I devoured this in 3 days, truly a great book.

Don’t read if you haven’t finished:

Iris and Roman’s relationship unfolded beautifully. The tenderness of this enemies to lovers trope has me excited for the next one.

Sophie Noble | 3 comments I read the first one but I don’t know if it is worth reading the second.

I loved the first one the world building and vibes were brilliant but I didn’t really connect with the characters.

Should I get the second?
