Zoe Truax (zoetruax) | 7 comments What is the book or series that you liked the most and that left a mark on your soul.

message 2: by Hanner (new)

Hanner Bananer It’s between Twilight and House of Night series. Both I read when I was younger and it always transports me to a simpler time. I have my criticisms of both series but they both left a mark on me and I get just as much enjoyment rereading them than when I read them the first time.

Alena | 3 comments Christy, the Robe, and the Donkey's Gift. None of them are my usual favorite style, all of them have changed who I am. They feed my soul.

message 4: by Ian (new)

Ian Houston | 33 comments Tough to choose just one, isn’t it? I think for me it would be The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Or possibly The Wizard of Oz. They don’t even rank in my top fifty books anymore, but one of those, I can’t remember which, was the first fantasy story I ever read. It opened my eyes to just how much a story could transport me to another world, and led me to the Hobbit, and then Lord of The Rings, and before your known it I’m consuming books at an alarming rate and I’m only seven or eight years old. Changed my entire life.

Bella(✨❤️Hopeful Romantic❤️✨) | 251 comments The Hunger Games. It has expanded my love for books even further than it already was and I just... LOVE THAT SERIES(I think I've mentioned that in every discussion).

Ana M. (aria_mis) | 1 comments A court of mist and fury and Florentia. I read the first one during winter, and it just felt magical. The second one stems from my obsession with the italian reniassance dynasty Medici.

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 1 comments Before the Coffee Gets Cold Series! Always a happy cry everytime I finished a book. Even with the same concepts on all books, the stories of each characters still gets to my heart and soul.

message 23: by Keli (new)

Keli Mullaney (kelimullaney) Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five. It has a little bit of everything, his actual memories and recounts of his time in Dresden and science fiction. Kurt was so good at weaving the serious and the ridiculous together. He quickly became my favorite author after that novel.

Lisa | 1 comments Hi all. Was just invited to this group and am enjoying reading your comments.
When I saw this thread and the by-line “The Book”, I immediately felt myself spinning trying to catch my proverbial tail.
I took a few moments and tried to understand what I got from reading your posts: enthusiasm for reading, wistfulness of lessons learned, kindness in intent, knowing yourselves and that helped.
Like you all, I’ve been influenced and shaped (and hopefully still am) by many life experiences.
I’m going to have to ponder the other threads.
But here, and at this moment in time, I’ll share “The Discovery of Heaven” by Harry Mulisch. I enjoy being humbled lol…not due to any lofty traits, but because I find I learn best in that framework. This book - and I don’t know I’m able to explain why..altered me and put me on a new trajectory with reading and thought.

Jill ~ Always Reading | 1 comments I’ll always have a soft spot for Twilight. It was the first book (then series) of books that I read after having my daughter and reminded me how much I loved reading and living in different worlds much more exciting than my own! The book that stands out for me most recently though that brought me out of a slump and that I’ll always recommend to people who are also in a slump is The Push by Ashley Audrain. That book lingered on me for months after I read it!

message 26: by Teddy (new)

Teddy Hazelden (therealbeanibaby) | 7 comments I bought Light from Uncommon stars by Ryka Aoki on a whim upon seeing the frankly batsh*t crazy plot synopsis but I was in for much more. It handles so many things from the trans experience, family in all its forms, aliens, demons and a donut shop but does it all so perfectly and it made me cry a few times. If you need something that'll surprise you, this is the book

I'm sure its not for everyone but thanks for the vote of confidence.
I don't see your post here? You got me into this...spill, lol.

message 29: by Audrey (new)

Audrey ✨Book Lover✨ | 1 comments So many to chose from! I have three that I can’t pick from: What’s Eating Gilbert Grape by Peter Hedges, This Boy’s Life by Tobias Wolff, and Radio Silence by Alice Oseman.

message 30: by Beth (new)

Beth Deese (bethdeese) | 4 comments A book I just added to my top 10 faves is Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver! It’s so good! In fact it won the Pulitzer thjs year which had me cheering! It follows the life of this boy, Damon, nicknamed Demon, in the rural Kentucky/Virginia mountains who is growing up in the 90s and winds up in the foster care system. It’s beautiful and tragic but so well told that you will be totally ensnared in Demon’s story. I gave it a rare 5 stars!

message 31: by Perri (new)

Perri | 1 comments The Lord of the Ring series is the only set of read three times. So glad the movie worked and that's rare as well

Beth Deese (bethdeese) | 4 comments Laura, that’s another favorite of mine!!!

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Leitner It would have to be both Harry Potter and The Hobbit. I read both of those growing up and they are both why I read today. I don't know how much of a reader I would be without those two things.

message 35: by David (new)

David East of Eden (Steinbeck)

message 36: by Sheldon (new)

Sheldon Locke | 1 comments Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. The most immersive series I've ever read. I've been reading King since the mid-70's.

message 37: by J. S. (new)

J. S. Bailey (jsbailey-) | 3 comments The Hunger Games trilogy I read as a teenager (when I wasn't really a reader) and I remember being totally engulfed by them. I eventually gave in and read them after it seemed like the entire world was reading and talking about them.
A great decision as Suzanne Collins is probably my favourite author of all time and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is incredible.

As far as touching my soul though, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a story that may never leave me.
Not the best for pros - simple and at times confusing (may be due to translation but I've had it on good authority that it's also confusing in its native Portuguese) but a tale of wonder. A tale of dream-chasing and taking on challenges and looking at failures or set backs with a positive attitude.
It gave me a new perspective toward life and as I write this I feel like a re-read is in order.
It came to me at a time in my life when I was becoming my own person and it encapsulates who and what I want to be in a short (almost novelette) format.
An inspiration.

Andrea | 2 comments The Choice by Edith Eger. left me haunted and bereft. A book that will never leave me, nor would I want it to. makes me thankful everyday.

message 40: by Isabel (new)

Isabel May The Princess Bride has remained my top favorite book so far. I love the drama and of course the famous line, said by Inigo Montoya, "you killed my father, prepare to die"

message 41: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Kelly This one is hard for me I have been reading since I was two, but the one that really made me a bookworm was the Dragonlance Series by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman, as well as Helter Skelter and Clan of the Cave Bear, My Sweet Audrina, Flowers in The Attic. (I was nine my mom was a young mom and didn't care what I read.)

message 42: by Ian (new)

Ian Houston | 33 comments Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman… classic! Brings back memories. 😊

message 43: by Andy (new)

Andy Nelson | 4 comments I think there have been several depending on my age. As a kid, it was The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings Series. In my 20’s it was the Left Behind Series. Most recently it has been the Iron Eagle Series by Roy Teel Jr. Each series was well written and kept me throughly entertained for different reasons.

OMG I loved all of those! I almost forgot the Dragonlance Series! I still have those in paperback.

message 46: by Laura (new)

Laura (laura0215) | 30 comments My favorite series of all time will forever be the Harry Potter Series. It was the first series I ever read that me feel like I was escaping everyday life, and it has stayed with me ever since. I still reread it every year to this day. My favorite standalone book of all time would have to be The Last Lecture. It embedded itself in my soul and will surely always stay there.

message 47: by Lynn (last edited Sep 05, 2023 09:44AM) (new)

Lynn | 130 comments Nobody groan here just because I like vampires, but I read all Anne Rice’s books and especially liked the ones up to MEMNOCK THE DEVIL which was brilliant but freaked me out.

I also loved THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Those were both series that sucked me into the worlds. What excellent world building!

message 48: by Sunae (new)

Sunae | 8 comments Its way easier to answer which Book of a Writer, or Series I like most.
I guess all good Books offer something unique, so I go whit some of the oldest Books who gave me great Childhood Memorys. Prisoners of the Sun from the Tintin Series, Murder at the Vicarague, and Murder on the Orient Express...

Formerly Comrate DonCamillo, but im more politicaly Litterate now, and the open Nationalism is to problematic for me.

And some Dinosaur Books I studied religiously. No Novels, just Ecology.
