I'm chunking off chapters 1-8 to start, but please - break up your comments / reading however you want :)What are your first impressions?
I'm trying to keep an open mind, but there are all sorts of little things that keep bugging me, like walking home after a day at the beach: the tiny bits of sand get more irritating the longer you walk.
I'm keeping an open mind though - sometimes these things smooth out as the books goes on.
Sorry Teddie, I got stuck in a Spider Web on another challenge and had to put this book on hold. I am now back. Not as far along as you are (not at all) but I am enjoying the book so far. I am a little annoyed at certain things -like the questions they ask in interviews - there are all of these questions I have and they do not ask them. Also, at the beginning, not letting the public know about a serial rapist or killer that is out there to be on the lookout! Like you I am keeping an open mind!
Hey I took notes on my chapters - I know you are finished and I just finished. I have some papers to grade tonight for school but I am going to post my comments on the chapters here tomorrow. I loved the book - I am eager to start the next one.
I'm really glad you liked the book. I had a harder time getting into it. There were enough things that happened or were said that just seemed inconsistent or just not real enough, and I think that kept the characters from having real depth for me.
I can totally see your point on the inconsistencies. I’ll admit that the book took me a little time to get into. In the beginning I was annoyed at a few scenes:* the lack of interview questions that should have been asked when Lauren was interviewing the school principal and the swim coach.
*Lauren’s initial conversation with her mother was all over the place.
*the first conversation between Lauren and the chief - it didn't strike me as two people who are dating.
But as the story progressed I was able to get more involved in the story and I found I could not figure out what was going to happen next. I read numerous thrillers and mysteries and it has always been rare that there is an unexpected death like with Lauren’s partner - Steve.
So I found the unexpected events, the twists and turns in the investigation - over-rode the lack of character development in the beginning for me.
