20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter - KSMary's Task: Season of Change

Fall brings both the birthday of my husband and daughter. This year will also be the retirement of my husband who retired from the National Guard after 34 years of service a few years ago and now his civilian job which is also military related while my daughter is completing her first year as a practicing attorney. To celebrate, we will be going to a NFL game to see our favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs and our favorite college team throughout the season.

The genres of children, sequential art and graphic novels/comics are not allowed for this task.

Choose one of the following options.
Required: State the option.

Option 1 – Read a book with a main character who is a military service member, a veteran or who is an attorney (or equivalent legal role such as a barrister, advocate etc.) - the character may be actively practicing or retired. Books may be either fiction or non-fiction.

Required: If the character's occupation is not clear from the GR book description, provide a reference.

Option 2 – The official colors of the Kansas City Chiefs are red and gold while the official colors of his college team are purple, gray, white and black with silver as an accent.

Read a book with red, gold, purple, gray, white, black or silver in the title, subtitle, series name or author’s name.

Words must be standalone and spelled exactly as listed (Ex: grey for gray is not allowed). Plurals and possessives are not allowed. If using the series name, the series name must appear in greyscale on the GR book page.

Yes, I am allowing fiction and all 3 of your books clearly state Military Science Fiction as a genre and all indicate a military status for each of the main characters (ie Admiral, Staff Sergeant, etc).

Enjoy!

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 82 comments Can I ask if I can read The Silent Girl - Tess Gerritsen for option 1?

1 main character is a cop and the other is a coroner.

Other option I was looking at was No Time To Run - J.D. Trafford?

Many thanks

1 main character is a cop and the other is a coroner.

The Silent Girl - Tess Gerritsen] wouldn't work as neither characters mentioned is either currently or previously been in the military or worked as an attorney or equivalent from the GR description.

No Time To Run is allowable. The GR description does indicate that the main character previously worked as an attorney.

Robin P | 1718 comments How about the Robert Galbraith series featuring Cormoran Strike as a main character who is a veteran? The new one about to come out is The Running Grave. He was in the British military in Afghanistan and lost his leg before becoming a private detective, and this impacts him regularly.

Yes, he is a veteran so that works.

Thanks!

Great, it is 960 pages, or 34 hours of audio so I want to use it for as many points as possible!

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments Does this work for option 1 ? The Stolen Hours It states that Lila Nash, the main protagonist, is a prosecutor under the Hennepin County Attorney.
Thanks,
Andy

For Captivating In Love, is the description phrase "came back from war a changed man" enough to show military main character, or should I get a quote from the book to show he was in the military?

I also read some of the reviews and multiple people mention the military tie, so I think it works!
