Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) Hello everyone. I just got assigned to the Fire Opal team and am so excited to get things started!

Here are a list of all the letters I plan on reading next week:

Battle Royale: B (title), K (author)
All the Pretty Horses: B (series title), C (author), R (character)
The Claw of the Conciliator: C (title), D (character)
The Sword of the Lictor: D (character)
The Jungle Book: B (characters), R (author/character), K (author)

message 9: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments Just to clarify, the start date for reading books doesn't matter, only the read date counts, so you can use books you are currently reading, you don't need to wait until the 22nd to start.

message 10: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments Hi, team! Apparently, this is your captain speaking. :) I'm so happy to see they've found a place for us on team Fire Opal. I live in the US, in Tennessee, very near the Mississippi River and Graceland, for those who know Elvis. Spring has begun here, which means lots of rain and overcast days. But my daffodils are blooming, and they always make me smile.

This is my first time with this challenge, but I promise to get up to speed as fast as I can and do my best for all of you. If you're new, like me, take time to read the rules a few times so they're clear in your head.

Our first color to spell is BRICK RED. Look for books you can read to fit this theme. We can start reading now, just don't finish the books you choose before the contest officially starts.

Welcome, everybody!

message 11: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 20, 2015 08:05AM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments "I" will be a tricky letter to fulfill, so please keep your eyes open for books that fit. Here are a few suggestions:
The Collected Works of AJ Fikry has Ismay; authors Ilone Andrews, Conn Iggulden; series "In Death" by JD Robb, "Immortal Guardian" by Dianne Duvall, "I-Team" Pamela Clare, "Immortals after Dark" by Kresley Cole. Keep your eyes open as you read for characters like Ian, Iris and Ivy, too.

If you have other suggestion of book series, or books you know fit but you won't be reading, please add them here. We'll need an "I" for every time we want to complete a round, and I know from other challenges that they can be tricky to find.

Good hunting and happy reading!

message 12: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 20, 2015 08:55AM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments Also, some books you plan to read may fit more than one letter for the challenge. If you let us know all the letters they fit we can arrange them to maximize our points.

So if you read a book from "In Death" series, by JD Robb, report it for the "I" and the "R", and we can decide which we need more when it's time to report. Right?

Ozana Ozzy (barbozzy) | 1018 comments Is first coulour BRICK LANE for first week reading? What about wheel?

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9693 comments Ozana wrote: "Is first coulour BRICK LANE for first week reading? What about wheel?"

There won't be wheel in first round. We used randomizer to give teams colors and put them in spreadsheets (first post). That way we gave you extra time for planning (and starting) your books. :)

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 465 comments Hey everyone, I just got assigned to this team(:

I'm currently reading:
Rapture by Lauren Kate and Champion by Marie Lu, one of the characters is June Iparis and the cover under the dust jacket is red.

P.S. It's snowing outside!

message 16: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 20, 2015 09:18AM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments We're getting a later start than many of the other groups, but I'm just glad to get to be here at all, and glad to meet all of you. :)

Take a look at the books you're already reading, and see how many of them can work for BRICK RED. I'm setting up a spread sheet on my computer to keep track of things till we get one set up here. So feel free to start reporting what books you can finish next week. I'll plan on filling in the holes that arise. For example, I'll be finishing:

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness for B (author), I (title), or D (character David Davis).

ETA - I love snow!

message 17: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) I rewrote my earlier post to make it a little clearer which books had which letters. Hopefully it makes more sense now. It looks like I can take care of B, R, C, K, and/or D.

Teri-K | 4 comments Tia wrote: "I rewrote my earlier post to make it a little clearer which books had which letters. Hopefully it makes more sense now. It looks like I can take care of B, R, C, K, and/or D."

Thanks, Tia. That makes it really easy for me to put on the spreadsheet. :)

ETA- Please add the character's name(s) that we can use, because we'll need that when we report, too.

message 19: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 23, 2015 06:48AM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments We've got the color through once already! That gives us our 15 bonus points. And we have several people who are reading books with red covers for the extra 30. That's a great start.

Now we'll work on reading the color word another time or two. Looking at the last challenge, most teams seem to read their word through 3-4 times. Let's see what kind of start we can make.

Life happens, so if you realize you won't finish a book you signed up for, just let us know right away and we'll rearrange or find someone who can fill in.

B Tia- Bailey (character), The Sky is Everywhere
R Tia- Rudyard Kipling, Jungle Book
I Michelle- June Iparis (character), Champion
C Tia- Claws of the Conciliator
K Tia- Koushin Takami, Battle Royal
R Michelle- Rapture
E Teri- Elizabeth Elliot, Through Gates of Splendour Red Cover
D Tia- Dorcas (character), The Sword of the Lictor

message 20: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) Awesome! Look at us go, haha.

Also, the D for the character in The Sword of Lictor stands for Dorcas. Should have said that right away, haha.

message 21: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) I might be able to get another C (The Citadel of the Autarch) and another D (Dorcas in The Urth of the New Sun) depending on how busy my week is. I'll keep you all updated as I go!

message 22: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 20, 2015 01:09PM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments FYI
The rules state "Books must be more than 160 pages in length. Children's books, Graphic Novels, Cookbooks and Poetry books cannot be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 160 pages."

I've also been told, "We usually go by what edition you have tagged as read. In case of ebooks and audiobooks if there isn't page count we go with default edition."

I'm checking out the details, but if the GR record doesn't list the book as over 160 pages, we can't use it here.

message 23: by Tia (last edited Mar 20, 2015 01:04PM) (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) Oh, I think you might have accidentally selected the wrong book/edition. The one I'm reading is 303 pages long: The Claw of the Conciliator

message 24: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments Tia wrote: "Oh, I think you might have accidentally selected the wrong book/edition. The one I'm reading is 303 pages long: The Claw of the Conciliator"

Weird. I cut-and-pasted the title and it only showed e-books with not enough pages. Your link works fine so the edition is back in. Thanks!

It will help me if everyone can get the exact edition they're reading entered into their Wheelathon bookshelf ASAP. That's what I'll use to verify the books when you finish them. Right now I'm just trying things out. :)

message 25: by Teri-K (last edited Mar 20, 2015 06:44PM) (new)

Teri-K | 4 comments BTW, everyone. If you happen to be loving a book you're reading, be sure and come here and let us all know. For one thing, we can get credit if someone else reads the book, too. Also, aren't we always on the hunt for good new books?

No such thing as a too-large TBR pile. Right?

Welcome, Catherine! Opal is my birthstone, too. It must be fate, right?

We had 4" of snow the weekend before last, then the next Sunday it was in the 70's. So hopefully sunny days are just around the corner for you, too.

I see you've reported your books. Thanks. As you read you can come back and let us know what other letters may work.

Plus, it's fine to start reading now, too. In case it's too cold to go outside. :)

That's a great help. Thanks for letting us know what you're planning.

We only need one red cover, and we have that already. But thanks.

If you find other letters the books will work for you can pop back in and edit your post. Sometimes we can't tell till we read a book what characters names we'll find.

I hope you like Prudence. Please let me know what you think of it, I'm waiting for my library to buy a copy. Plus, I gave Clockword Angel 3 stars, but the next one 4 and the last one 5. I wonder what you'll think of it.

Happy reading.

BTW - We're actually doing BRICK RED, so we don't need an L or A. But I'm sure you'll find character names that will work for this challenge. I found a few from the GR description.

There's also also something wicked this way comes for R or B and I'm not sure who the characters are in that either.

See if this is right:
City of Ashes I- Isabelle Lightwood (character), C- Author
The Infinite Sea B- Ben Parrish (character), R- Author, I- Title, C- Cassie Sullivan (character), E- Evan Walker (character)
Something Wicked This Way Comes B- Author, R- Author, C- Charles Halloway
(I assumed you meant the Bradbury novel. There are several others with that name, too.)

I'll add those to the spread sheet. Just pop back in and let us know as you read if there are other character names you find that will work for other letters.

Thanks!

Teri-K | 4 comments YEAH!!!
If I knew how I'd paste a cute picture of Kermit the Frog getting all excited right here. :)
(Not one of those moving gifs, though. They give me a headache.)

We have two rounds of our color filled in, and are starting on the third. I have faith that we can fill in at least one more complete round. We still haven't heard from one member and I haven't used most of mine, though I expect to read at least 6.

I'm not using books people aren't ready to commit to finishing yet, but be sure we'll use every book you read. Also, we don't have to complete the last round to get credit for those books.

Way to go, Fire Opals!
