*spoilers*I was hooked up until we found out Marion was keeping Avery in the house. I felt it slowed down a bit after that since that was the big twist.
Really liked it though, kept me guessing.
Avery was a real jerk and a psychopath. As Rachel made note of that sociopathic traits can begin at age 2-3 which would make sense for her. Each character had their own downfall of some sort all because of what Avery did. The mother was the only redeeming character. I liked the multiple viewpoints and how it kept me guessing. I’m glad it ended like it did and that it ended up with Avery having her downfall as well. 3.8/5

Lapena is one of my favorite authors and I've read all her books. This book was good but not one of her best. Ialso feel that the book started off really good with trying to figure out what happened to Avery and who took her. I feel the books pace slowed when we find out that she was in the neighbors' basement the whole time. I like how it ended though when Avery's lie about how she was kidnapped catches up with her. I think I only gave it 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. I had to keep reading, and was shocked to find out where Avery was. In reading the comments I agree that the mom was the only one with redeeming qualities. I also liked how everyone was interconnected in some way. Lapena doesn’t ever disappoint.
