He's coming out with a new book based on 7 ideas he had for books revisiting Ford County, Judge Noose, Alex Rex, and others. Too many differences to weave into one full book. So he may be reviving an old theme of short stories in one book. I like that idea.

Hi Annette,I've been curious about his new book. Not quite sure about it, probably will have to read it anyway just because I've always enjoyed most of his books.
Cora
Hello,I'm new here. Big fan of John Grisham. I've read several of his books, my favorite being The Partner. My next choice will be The Street Lawyer. Have you ever read it ? Is it a page-turner ?
Pedro
Hi Pedro,Welcome. Being a John Grisham fan myself, I thought I had read most of his books, but seems like this own doesn't sound familiar although reading the summary it sounds like a good one. I'll have to read this myself to find out. Sorry.
Cora
Hi Cora,Then we can share thoughts about the book as soon as we finish it. By the way, I have just finished the Lost Symbol and I tell you this: Dan Brown is a good writer, but he doesn't even come close to John Grisham.
I plan on reading Lost Symbol myself but have been putting it off. Not sure its a type of book I would enjoy. What are your thoughts?Cora
It is a decent thriller with a lot of mystical information in the middle of it. The ending is not entirely predictable but a little bit disapointing. But the book will get you going on page after page. I recommend it, but make sure you don't keep your hopes too high like I did. Furthermore, I got a little upset at the author because he does reveal some of the secrets of the Masons.I hope I could help a little bit.

The Street Lawyer is a page turner!
I read it in the other discussion is favorite is The Testament. I like that one too, especially because it takes place, partly, in Brazil, where I live. So you've never been to Pantanal ? It is a gorgeous place.
Never there except through the pages of his book. And it was absolutely awesome,...feels like I have been there and would like to return!

Annette,
Not reading it yet. Waiting awhile to find a good price on it.
But I do have it as to read. If you read it before I do, let me know how you liked it.
Cora
Cora: Will do! Probably quite a wait on hold at the library, though!
Back to what I think of as Grisham's roots; Ford County, MS. This is where it all started, with _A Time to Kill_. The tragic humor in some of these stories reminds me of favorite authors, Larry Brown and Harry Crews. *SPOILER BELOW*
Especially moving is Grisham's short story "Funny Boy", the poignant end of life story of a young man estranged from his moneyed Southern family. Having been ostracized by his entire town (on his return from San Fran), he is sent by his family to live the rest of his life in "Lowtown" (an "across the tracks" part of town). The compassion and humanity displayed by Adrian towards Emporia (mutually reciprocal) is a beautiful and enlightening experience for Emporia and for all of us lucky readers. "Funny Boy" is the incredibly poignant telling of humanity at its worst, and best. If a storys ability to elicit tears is a measure of worth, this one is worthy indeed.A Time to KillLarry BrownHarry Crews
A big difference between John Grisham's work and Dan Brown's is that they make MUCH better movies. You don't have to be a codebreaker to follow them. And they are much deeper. A Time to Kill was an awesome movie! (I'll take Matthew McConehey any day!) LOL

NOs-HIT! LOL! And he is proving to be quite an accomplished actor as he grows...he plays so many different roles so well. Rare breed, as Tom Hanks.
Not just a pretty boy, but finding out wide characters, as Brendan Fraser...I thought HE was done with "George of the Jungle!" LOL!

In fact, I felt the only Grisham movie that stood up to the book was, The Runaway Jury. But, I have yet to see, The Chamber, yet.

Do you mean how MANY of John Grishams books are good? In my opinion ALL but Painted House, and I couldn't get through the Brethren I think it was-the beginning didn't appeal to me, I didn't read Playing for Pizza, or the Christmas one that was made into the movie "Christmas with the Kranks." The Testament is my all time favorite. Read it twice and I'm sure I'll read it again. I recall not liking the movie The Chamber, but I can't recall why. It's been a long time since.
