October 2023 Word Search Scavenger Hunt
Begins: 01Oct23 / Ends: 31Oct23

.

Your challenge is to find the words/phrases shown below in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month.

You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!

NOTE - you may NOT use the book which is the source for the words in the scavenger hunt!

This month's scavenger list are words found in
When Two Feathers Fell From The Sky by Margaret Verble When Two Feathers Fell From The Sky by Margaret Verble

NOTE: You may NOT use this book for this month's scavenger hunt!

Basic word list
bandana
casino
dither
future
geranium
itch
judge (noun, presides over a court)
kidnapped
lemonade
nation
outright
predicament
range
stroll
tobacco

Optional (BONUS) word list
archery
eavesdrop
haywire
Milky Way
quarantine(d)

=============================================================

Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So, if you are looking for "vivid" - I will NOT allow "vividly."

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio, or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon’s “look inside" feature to get a page number for your quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.

EXAMPLE of a successful post:

beggar - Hiroshima ✔ – 26Mar23 - pg 34 - "He looked like a beggar."

Have Fun!

Patty | 250 comments I am finding it harder to word search words on the books I have read. I used to have no problems looking up a book on Amazon and search for a book. Now it is either a kindle book that doesn't have word search or a book that doesn't give you what page the word is on. Is there an easier way? What does everyone else do?

I print out a list of words and use it as my "bookmark" when I'm reading ... so I can jot down the page number and quote as I see it.

I have noticed that fewer books ... especially newer books ... have a robust search feature on amazon. I also use Google Books "preview" ... but it, too, frequently misses page numbers.

Thank you for the suggestion of Google Books. It helped a little.
