Mahon the grumpus. I thought Kate had earned the Pack's respect a million times over. I'm glad she finally won over the big guy though. I think it meant a lot to Kate.
One of the outcomes of this story is that I think even Kate believes she no longer needs to prove anything to anyone. Mahon sealed the deal and I think she felt that.
Kate has always had her supporters in the pack - Derek, Aunt B, Barabas, Raphael and Jim (although the latter is iffy at times). I thought Doolittle was in her camp as well but his actions in this book undermine that. For everyone else, she was merely tolerated as Curran's mate and had to prove herself over and over. While she has won Mahon over in this book, I'm not sure it is enough.
I love Derek and Barabus! Hands down two of my favorite characters in the series. I've said it before and I'll say it again ... I desperately hope Derek's character gets a storyline that's worthy of a novella at least if not a spinoff like Raphael. I think it was Monica who speculated maybe Derek and Julie someday. And ... I'll stop waxing poetic about Derek in a second ... his role in Magic Breaks is a really good one. He's just so damn loyal! And tortured ... Ok I'm done ;).
In this instance, I'm only referring to Kate's need to prove herself to the pack. Mahon's declaration may have given her that final confidence boost.
I'm starting to think that Kate has done enough to prove herself. Either the pack accepts her or they don't. She doesn't owe them anything.
I'm with you on that and believe she finally thinks so, too, though that Doolittle situation....
Oh, Erin, I NEED an HEA for Derek!!! I'd love for them to do a full-length novella (is that an oxymoron???) like they did for Raphael and Andrea. I want to weep every time he's in a scene.
There are several characters that could get their own full length books to flesh out the Kate Daniels World spin-off: Derek and Julie, Jim and Dali.

I love Derek! Erin and I should start up a Derek fan club, lol.

I agree about Doolittle, Lauren. I also thought Kate had earned his respect, but a few things in this book undermined that.
The weres are a very fickle bunch of creatures. It constantly changes from one book to the next, even within one book. Kate definitely has an uphill battle.
