Anyone know when/where the winners are being announced? :)

Lesley | 1595 comments From NZ Books website -
"The Ngaio Marsh Awards celebrate the best in New Zealand crime, mystery and thriller writing. The awards are held annually at the WORD Christchurch Writers and Readers Festival. "

From memory this is part of festival week in Christchurch which is in November. On the Ngaio Marsh Awards FB page says details and date to be confirmed.

Thanks Lesley. I guess the festival is later than usual as well? I was sure the winners used to be announced August/Septemeber.

Well the winners have been announced;

So far I can only find the actual winners on X or Facebook;

Has anyone read or planning to read any of these books?

I've just finished adding the Ngaio Marsh Awards on Goodreads & I already had the Best First Novel Better the Blood on one of my to-read lists - I think that was from one of my GR friend's enthusiastic reviews.

& The Darkest Sin looks intriguing, but I will read the first volume in the series first.

The author did an article on Spinoff a few months ago https://thespinoff.co.nz/books/10-10-...

The one that interests me most of all is one of the non-fiction books shortlisted, Downfall: The destruction of Charles Mackay Who knew that Whanganui had such a scandal in it's past?

Lesley | 1595 comments I also have Better the Blood on my TBR shelf, and on hold at the library. I've just checked and it looks like it will be one of my Christmas reads!

I have recently read Remember Me / Charity Norman. An excellent book set in small town New Zealand with a really good plot. I like the writing style of the author which has prompted me to try more of her work. I gave it 4.5 stars.

I've not read any of the other nominations for 2023 Ngaio Marsh awards, but I have to say I've read a lot of really good New Zealand books this year. There seems to have been an abundance of them this year, and, yes, I had every intention of doing the Kiwi Reads challenge, but you know how lax I am when it comes to reviews, Carol! :)
I will list the titles with ratings on the challenge post before the end of this year....:)ETA : corrected my slip up with title entry twice. Now added author!

I have seen Charity Norman's name around such a lot on Goodreads - I probably should add that to one of my lists as well.

& no worries about the Kiwi Reads challenge. I have two Kiwi non-fiction books on the go ATM - & I am a very slow non-fiction reader. I should have them both finished by the end of the year though!

I've heard good things about Better The Blood and would def like to pick it up at some point. Have also been meaning to try Charity Norman. Maybe they'll be some of the kiwi authors I'll try out for my Kiwi Challenge next year :)
