OK, on the first page, but looking at the list of this guy's other books, I am not getting a "great guy with titles " vibe......
This book was pretty typical of the trashy horror books that came out in such profusion in the 80's and 90's. They seemed to be everywhere - bookstores, grocery stores, discount stores. Horror was very popular back then, and publishers wanted to cash in on it. I remember bookstores had a whole section dedicated to horror fiction. Now it seems that YA is the popular genre that bookstores are really pushing.
I'm finished with the book. I thought it was OK, but not great. The writing did keep me reading until the end, though. For me, I wouldn't call it scary but more creepy with gross-out scenes thrown in. It was entertaining, so that's good. Nothing worse than a horror story that's boring.I read another book by this author that I liked more: Dispatch. This was a more recent book, so maybe his wtiting skills improved with time.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through. He's an OK author, but the book is half horror, half political doomsday thriller. It's preachy. Though there are enough ties to current day worries to make me anxious. We'll see how the ending goes.
I am about halfway through. It feels kind of old school in a way I can't put my finger on. I'm enjoying it, although it is stressing me out a little bit. A lot of things that get written about in horror books don't scare me at all, but a bad workplace situation? Ack. (Not really kidding!)

For years after I quit a horrible job, I'd sometimes have nightmares that I was back working there with all the same conditions. I'd wake up terrified, like from a nightmare. A real horror show.

I actually thought it had been written in the late 80's, instead of the late 90's. Certain things, like going out to buy typewriter ribbon seemed like it took place much earlier. Unless it said it took place in the 80's and I didn't notice.
