Mackenzie :) (book_girl_777) | 253 comments I'm in

I wouldn't mind some Thriller/mystery recommendations for the season!

message 3: by Elena (new)

Elena Granger | 1805 comments I'm also in, but will publish picks a bit later (close to weekend).
As for themes, something cosy, but also spooky will do :)

Alright only a few days late go me :P

Mackenzie
Someone Is Always Watching by Kelley Armstrong I still say going into this one knowing the least amount possible is best. Its a good mystery type book for the season
Hideaway (Devil's Night, #2) by Penelope Douglas from your tbr, sounds like a fitting book for spooky season
Deadly Silence (Blood Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti also from your tbr, that covers screams spooky vibes and sounds like a good read

Laura
Blood Sugar by Sascha Rothchild a good mystery thriller with a different MC. Ruby is a psychologist who also loves animals. Just because she happened to help some bad people along to their death doesnt mean she's a serial killing sociopath... right?
Sea of Darkness (The Vampire Pirate Saga #1) by Isadora Brown I just finished this one and it has some issues but was an interesting take on vampires
The Book of Witches by Jonathan Strahan from your tbr, if you are up for an anthology, one of witches sounds fitting for October
Lilith by Nikki Marmery from your tbr and I really want someone to read it and tell me if its good. I haven't been having the best luck with retellings lately.

Elena
The Enigma of Room 622 by Joël Dicker I know nothing about this one but when I googled spooky cozy books it came up and it sounds like a good read. So read it and tell me if I should too?
Cursed Cocktails (Tales of Aedrea, #1) by S.L. Rowland I've just added this to my tbr. It sounds like its in a similar style to Legends and Lattes.
Mysteries of Thorn Manor (Sorcery of Thorns, #1.5) by Margaret Rogerson on your tbr and it was just so fun. Its kind of like an extended epilogue to the first book but in the best way.

Elena Granger | 1805 comments @Mackenzie
Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune - It's cozy and has ghosts, but not spooky. Still I think it's a good fit for the season. And the narration is divine.
The Girl with Ghost Eyes by M.H. Boroson - good asian fantasy, ghosts and spookiness included :)
Locke & Key, Vol. 1 Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill - extremely engaging spooky mystery.

@Laura
The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer - I almost finished this one and it's good, though not spooky, but there is some mystery to it, also very cozy.
One of Us Is Lying (One of Us is Lying, #1) by Karen M. McManus - It seems you haven't read it yet, very interesting mystery thriller.
The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón - for some gothic vibes.

@Brittany
Cursed Cocktails (Tales of Aedrea, #1) by S.L. Rowland - Looks so wholesome and cozy and, well, I'm also very interested in this one.
The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner - a very good solid mystery.
The Inheritance Games (The Inheritance Games, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - I've already read 3 books in the series and it's a great mystery.

Laura ☾ | 899 comments I read the booobof Witches and it was an interesting anthology! Definitely liked some stories more than others

How are you guys doing?

message 16: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6607 comments Mod
That is always the thing with anthologies! But glad it was an interesting one

I have my copy of Yumi now but as I am currently reading a Sanderson with Way of Kings I haven't gotten to it yet. Had intentions of reading a few of these in October but didnt happen

message 17: by Elena (new)

Elena Granger | 1805 comments So I haven't read the Wicked Saints as I planned at first. But I've read Mysteries of Thorn Manor. I remember loving the first book, but the sequel is a little boring. Not bad, wanted it to be better :)

Oh I'm also considering buying Yumi soon :) Btw how's Way of Kings? That's probably my favourite Sanderson's series.

Way of Kings has been slow going for me. Not that I don't enjoy it just that I started it when I still had the massive brain fog and its a very detailed book to start with. But getting there. Enjoying but not loving yet. I'm sure I will though.
