I use to be a big YA reader and put this on my shelf long ago and then during house cleaning, swept it off last year. YA and I have a love/hate relationship and it appears I made the right decision on this one. If you only gave 3 stars, I doubt I would rate it higher than that-too many great books, IMO, to read just an "OK" book. Thanks for justifying my removing it! 😁

I own many of these and I have a big case of FOMO so I cannot unhaul without trying to read them first :/ maybe one day, I'm slowly letting go...
Funny thing is I moved from a book about 3 sisters who tried to kill each other to another YA book (contemporary) about 3 sisters who love each other and I really enjoyed that book! (To All the Boys I've Loved Before)
All The Boys was a good book, I enjoyed that too. I am finding it is the newer YA that I cringe at-lol, and stopped adding it, with exception, to my shelf. Every once in a while, one that I missed taking off will pop up. When I look at adding books now, I always check the tag and if says YA and it is not an author I know, I just move on. I have found excellent authors by reading that genre, Bardugo, and Katherine Addison to name a couple. And I must say, that your reviews on this genre have helped me, in both adding and deleting. In fact, I do remember when I first started the SRC challenge you had a challenge where we had to pick a book from your Fantasy shelf. OMG, I was astounded at all the books you had there and I had a field day adding to my own shelf-😅-and you definitely turned me on to Australian authors.I still have a lot of Aveyard, Trudi Canavan, Sarah Durst , Tessa Gratton and some older (think 1980's, early 90's) like Lackey that are classed YA, but have earned my respect.

The island of Fennbrin is an interesting place though obviously dark when each Queen will bear triplets and they must kill each other until one is left to be crowned ruler of the island. As it is a tradition based on 'religion', I am very curious about this goddess which wasn't mentioned very much in this novel; I feel that this will be for later on in the series when they try to break this down. This novel is told from the triplet's perspectives so we see each Queenlings in their own domains and their struggles with their gifts and duties. Each are likeable in their own ways but my romantic self really just wanted the HEA and I just can't suffer through 3 more books for this.
