Don't read further if you haven't read the book yet and/or haven't received your box! This discussion will most likely contain spoilers!

....Ok, we good?

This is a place for everyone to discuss the March book selection....

...which is Red Queen!

Here are a few starting off questions for us, but feel free to ask your own questions or make any other comments about the book!

1. What did you think of the premise? Some have said it's similar to Red Rising and/or other dystopias. Do you agree or disagree?

2. What did you think of the magic system?

3. Who were your favorite/least favorite characters?

Phoebe (ptorrens) | 2 comments So, I just finished this book!! I definitely think that it borrowed a lot from other dystopias I've read (although I haven't read Red Rising). The plot seemed familiar, substandard conditions for the poor, everything's awesome for the rich, let's rise up against them and take back what's ours...definitely reminds me of Legend by Marie Lu, or The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo. That said, I really liked the scarlet guard and how clever they were. It's a shame that all of their hard work was destroyed when they gave all their info to the wrong person...I wonder how that will play out in the next book!
I thought the magic in the book was pretty cool! I liked that all the houses could do something different, I really liked all of the arena scenes where we got to see the powers in action!I am curious to find out more about how the powers developed, especially now that they seem to be spreading to the reds.
I was not overly impressed with the characters in this book. Mare was kind of boring for me, she didn't really capture my love or affection...lol! I don't know why exactly that is. Maybe I just can't get past the fact that she had tunnel vision and never thought about things beyond how she thought about them. Cal was similar in that aspect. I also thought their romance was a little lacking, I never knew if I was supposed to want them together or want Mare and Maven together. (Until that ending of course). Actually my favorite character might have been Maven!! I know that seems terrible, but I loved to hate him! Same with his mother. I also really liked Shade and Julian, they both made me excited to read. Lucas was another favorite- I was so sad when he died. I'm really glad the ending spiced things up! When Maven made Cal kill their father-that was just fabulously tragic! And then that ending, super exciting for the next book :)
