Hi everyone - moving over to an October thread

I'm still reading Gods of Wyrdwood and Empire of Silence

Both amazing but both are over 600 pages so it's taking a wee while!!

Let me know what you are all reading and enjoying - or any books you've seen that you are excited about!

Paula | 37 comments I finished "Godkiller" and I loved it so much that I need the second book as soon as possible.

But it's not published yet so I'm reading "The Philosopher Kings" by Jo Walton who is one of my favourite writers and whom I had the chance to meet last summer. She's such an amazing woman, so wise and so funny!

Yes!!! I'm so glad you liked Godkiller - it was amazing. And I'll have to keep a look out for The Philosopher Kings - when is it out?

It's already out! It is the second book of the "Thessaly" series by Jo Walton. The first book is "The Just City" and it's a fantasy book in which Apollo and Athena (yes, the Greek gods) decide to make Plato's utopia "The Republic" a reality, taking philosophers and thinkers from all History into a newly made world following the ideas in the book. But amongst the "guests" there's Socrates who starts questioning everything and everyone. The series is now being translated into Spanish but it's not new

Keith | 18 comments Late to the party, but just finished Red Rising. Couldn't get into it the first time I tried. This time I really enjoyed it and look forward to more of the series as I heard it get even better

Natalie | 6 comments Hello Shauna!!! I just finished your first book of the Gael Song and already bought the second! I had to import it from the UK because Amazon destroyed Brazil’s bookshops And ALSO stopped offering new and important releases. I guess I’ll just have to get really rich real soon to continue my passion for reading!
You see it gets worse in my case because I love reading in English if that is the original language the book was written. So I’m not a fan of translation and that makes everything more expensive.
Let’s see how it goes.
Recently my October reads have been LOTR yet again because I adore Tolkien and love to reread a favourite, Gallant by the brilliant VSchwab, also Miss Aldrige Regrets, and rereading another favourite: HP and the Half blood prince (I’m a big fan of HP).
I also bought Gods of the Wyrdwood because I saw you were reading it and got all curious! But it hasn’t arrived yet. Love!xxx

Oh no - that's so annoying it is so difficult for you to get books!! I hope your order arrives soon. I finished Gods of the Wyrdwood a few days ago. It's really good. A lot slower than most other books, but it really immerses you in the world. I'm looking forward to reading the second one.

I love Harry Potter too. Which book in that series is your favourite?

I'm going to read that series next year. So many people are talking about it at the minute. I do want to finish The Suneater series first. I'm currently reading Demon in White which is the third in the series.
I've been bad recently and hoping around lots of different series and not finishing, so that is my resolution for now - get a few series finished before starting any new ones!

Natasha (natashatsak) | 11 comments I'm reading Lips Touch Three Times by Laini Taylor. Just finished the first story which broke my heart. Such lovely writing Laini has! her prose is like little polished sea shells and her similes blow me away! Also listening to the 3rd Poirot book, Poirot Investigates. I got this Poirot itch for some reason that I'm currently scratching. I had never read any of those books and the narrator, Richard Armitage, is just amazing. He's got one of those voices and cadences that make you want to listen to all his books, regardless of content. I'm picking up Returns, too, a short story in the Library universe of Mark Lawrence. Looking forward to it!

Paula | 37 comments I've just finished Adalyn Grace's "Belladonna" which was my first 'HallowRead' and now I'm reading the second 'HallowRead', "Nettle and Bone" by T Kinfisher.

I loved "Belladonna's" setting, its atmosphere, its Victorian gothic vibe, everything

I think that book came out the same time as mine - I remember seeing it everywhere!! Also - I have Nettle and Bone - but not read it yet. How you finding it?

In the first scene the protagonist, Marra, is making an animal companion, a dog, out of different bones. Also she's in her thirties which is refreshing.

This is my first Kingfisher and her storytelling is very dark-fairytail-esque if you can imagine that. I mean think the original brother's Grimm rather than disney. Also she uses a lot of flashbacks but she never lets you get lost. And that's all I can say for now.

Natalie | 6 comments Hello Shauna!
Thank you for answering my comment! I don’t know how to answer directly from your comment so Im putting it down here.
I think my favourites HP are from the 3rd onwards, but I can’t pick one as I love them too much.
I finished reading your second book loved it so much.
Id love to ask you how can I know more about Ronnat. Is she a mythological figure? I can’t find anything on her in the web.
I love her so much, she’s so powerful and awake!
Are you going to write more on her for the next book? I really hope so!
I don’t know how many books you intend to write for the Gael series but I suggest 23. Maybe then it will be enough because Im really enjoying them! 🤭
Xxx

Ah - well it might interest you to know that my first novella is from Rónnat's perspective - so you will find out more about her then!
She's a mythological character though, so you won't find out anything about her online - and yes, she does appear in book 3 as well!!

oh no!! I hope the storm isn't too bad. We've had so much flooding where we are. Thankfully the storm missed us, otherwise, I think we would have been in real trouble.

Last night my bedroom door was shaking like a giant ghost was hitting it. And it was all the wind. All the windows and the doors in my house were closed, all of them. And still, the wind got in. Today I wouldn't go out, right opposite my house there's this tall mast with a huge Spanish flag, and our mayor didn't lower it and put it away... the flag ended up in the middle of the road with all the traffic from rush hour... a mess. 9-10 mts tall waves, thunder & lightning... and only two days ago we were still sunbathing! But I think in France is even worse.

Natalie | 6 comments Dear Shauna I had no idea you had written other books! They don’t show here on Goodreads, are they still upcoming or am I simply not informed?
I must read them all!
What is this novella you mentioned from Rónnat’s point of view? It must be fascinating. What’s the title?
I am obsessed with Ronnat now, I even dream of her sometimes.
I tried to find more information on the internet because there is a little about Gormflaith and Fodla, but I don’t know why about Ronnat there is nothing.
I might have a look at the books you mentioned in the bibliography though. I hope I can get my hands on them over here!

Oh gosh - that's bad!! I hope its calming down now. Our floods appear to have now receeded... lots of damaged property though.

I'm really hoping for an announcement soon - possibly early next year?
The book about Rónnat is honestly just one of my favourite things. I'm so glad you are a Rónnat fan!! She's not a real character, which means I can have a lot of fun with her too.

As soon as I find out anything concrete about release dates etc.. I will let you all know!
