Was looking at the pronunciation guide and she said that the "a" sound is like the "o" in "hot," pronounced "ah." Which American accent is she basing this off of? I definitely do not pronounce hot as "haht." This also makes me wonder if when she writes "doll" for dal she means "dahl." It's incredibly confusing.

I definitely do not pronounce hot ..."I think the reason it says "a as in hot" is because it makes the same sound as the a in avacado (think "ah ha!" instead of "hat")? Maybe I'm stretching here, but that's all I could come up with. But I agree that it's less of an a sound and more of an o sound (but let's face it, the English language is all kinds of special). (:
