A I'm 20% in and reading Isabelles teen years. So she went to boarding school in Canada for 3 years and then returns home to the small Island in Asis she lives in that she describes as third world yet the people she encounters i.e. at high school all seem American given names and white? Really confused

Eta just got the part where its explained, a bit too late in my opinion and odd.

Most Phillipino names are a blend of Spanish and American names, actually.

Ok, I didn't realise it was set in the Philippines - this is something that must have gotten lost in the confusing first few chapters. That said, I didn't reaslise places like Target were even anywhere but the US and Australia and found it disappointing that the way the Philippines ws depicted ws so America-centric with little to know description of the culture and landscape of the Philippines.
