Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I thought I would create a thread for the discussion on Universal Monster films. One, because I'm surprised there isn't one already, two, there's been a recent comeback on them and three because they are absolute classics and it always makes for good conversation.

What are some of your favorite Universal Monster films? Discuss!

It wouldn't be Halloween to me without at least one showing of Frankenstein. The "monster" being revealed is a movie scene to not be missed. We tend to forget this was the moment when the image we all have today of the creature was fixed in our minds.

Brianna | 31 comments @Wendy - that moment is so iconic and Karloff in that role is just perfection.

Every Halloween night we put on a Universal classic while we man the door for trick or treaters (last year my 5-year-old sat through most of "Bride of Frankenstein" and had many questions about why it's in black and white, haha). My father grew up watching these as a child and he passed that love down to me, so they have a warm place in our house every Halloween. I think this year we might watch "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" which has a few of the classic monsters.

Svengoolie also shows a lot of these! Not sure if anyone knows or has watched Svengoolie here. (My Dad was really into that, too).

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 538 comments The visuals of those films were just so iconic. To this day when we’re having a certain kind of mostly cloudy night with the moon shining in the darkness my wife and I call it a “Universal Studios” night and wait for Larry Talbot to show up….

I love that. Hopefully he never does show up, unless you'd welcome him?

Erika | 475 comments Great idea to talk about this!

One of my greatest childhood memories: my dad had a very old projector and reel film of many classic movies, including "Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein"
I was born in the 80's but I think he had these when he was in college?! I'll have to ask him. I do know he sold them years ago!! Ugh this makes me sad. So, anyway, point is: Frankenstein! probably because of this sentimental aspect

Total sidenote: I love Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder LOLOLOL

Erika | 475 comments Speaking of Universal Studios....it was a travesty when they got rid of the "Jaws" ride! omg I loved that one

Young Frankenstein is even funnier when you know the scenes from the original Frankenstein.
The laboratory used in YF is from the original as are the words Gene Wilder used when trying to give life to his creature.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Dracula is my favorite followed by Frankenstein then The Wolfman, Creature From the Black Lagoon and then The Mummy in terms of universal creature films.
