Pages: 343 pages

Length: 1 month (November)

Participants: Beth, Lorraine, Mansi V

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Mansi V | 241 comments Hi I'm hoping to start this in the next few days

Lorraine | 2426 comments I have a few books from the library to finish first. I think the end of next week should work for me.

Beth | 1654 comments I just finished the first section. Obviously, it’s a fascinating read. It’s hard to read about the Clutters going about their lives, without realizing the collision course they’re on.

Beth | 1654 comments Finished this morning. Excellent book. Understandably a classic. I’ve seen one or two movie adaptations, but this is the first time I’ve read the book.

Lorraine | 2426 comments I will be starting this book this weekend.

Lorraine | 2426 comments Just finished part 1. This book is hard to read. Not because of the writing but the subject. I actually find the way Capote write the story in perfect line with the title. It is a very ‘cold’ narration of the events. It makes me uncomfortable but this is probably the desired effects.

Mansi V | 241 comments Hi sorry it hasn't been a great reading month for me. I'm still hoping to finish it by the end of the month but I've only read the first part so far and I'm struggling a bit. I keep on reading a page and then having to reread it because I didn't pay attention. I think this is partially to do with how slightly mundane the first part is supposed to be and the lack of smaller chapters but also because the text is quite small in my copy of the book.

I found the book gets better after Part 1

Lorraine | 2426 comments I've finished the book. I agree with Beth this is a classic. It took me a while to get involve in the story but after part 1, I was hooked. I had this book for at least 3 years. very happy to have finally read it.

Mansi V | 241 comments Just finished the book and I'm finding it difficult to rate it. I liked his writing and the whole non-fiction novel style. But in terms of the actual subject matter, I think years of watching crime shows and studying law has kind of desensitised me, so the dark and shocking aspect of the book was slightly lost on me. But this is more of a criticism of me as a reader than the book I guess.
Also I think I preferred the middle two parts over the first and last part. The last part almost reminded me of my law lectures aha.
