Chapter 1 has the following quote: Fear of martyrdom is the start of an honest appraisal of our own spiritual mediocrity.

What do you think? Are you afraid of martyrdom? Have you ever considered the possibility?

We read here The History of the Church: From Christ to Constantine by Eusebius of Cesarea and found somewhat disturbing the eagerness of some Christian young men to be martyrs. Sometimes they asked for it, and Eusebius gave his approval. But not everybody agrees.
