Who is planning on reading this one? I have fallen behind with my reading having recently moved house, but I' m hoping to get to it next week.

Antoinette | 104 comments I think I will be able to fit this one in. Hopefully starting it this weekend. I love to over extend myself!!

I always seem to do that too. My mum has a copy of this one, so I hope to pick it up on Sunday.

Antoinette | 104 comments I started this one yesterday and I’m already half way through. Dorothy Whipple does it again- she knows how to tell a great story with people I grow to care about.

Mary (alianthia) | 21 comments I loved that one. Heck, I love all her books too.

I find she is one of those writers whose stories you can just sink into, the outside world tends to disappear. Looking forward to this one.

I'm maybe 2/3 through - this is the second time I've read it! So delightful - it's similar to Miss Pettigrew in that you're rooting for the main character to come out of her shell. :)

I started yesterday, but haven't had much time to read it; I had picked up R.C. Sherriff's autobiography, No Leading Lady: An Autobiography and haven't been able to put it aside for anything iver the past few days. Just finished it, so I will be able to devote more of my reading time to this one.

Dorothy Whipple has such a knack of drawing me right into her stories. I have just come back from the Hospital Ball where I felt anxious and indignant, as much toward Mrs Greenwood as Mr Elliot. Now I'm furious at Mrs Greenwood for her demands the next day. How dare she! Oh I do hope she'll get her come-uppance.

This made me laugh. In her conversation with Mr Chadwick when she hands in her notice:-

"I can't stay on here forever at twenty-five shillings a week."

"What's the matter with twenty-five shillings a week? It's as good a wage as you'll get anywhere in this town."

"I know. That's why I must set up for myself."

Oh she's good.
