Glad you liked it Jen. Book 1 is build up to the next, so hope that you plan on continuing. I really did enjoy Evans story of how and why he wrote the book, was that at the end of your book?As I told you before, I am anticipating the 3rd book, which comes out in 2024. While checking on the release date (none yet) I saw there will be a 4th.
It started slow and Tau was such a random MC but then it really started to build. Ooohhh, there was more after the story but it was super late and I didn't look. I will definitely go back and read more about his personal story. I loved picking up all the names that I knew!
Absolutely moving on to Book 2, just need to figure out when. Hopefully the 3rd does really come out in 2024.

The story is brutal with many fights, wars and skirmishes as Tau does all he can to be strong enough to take on nobles. The world building is also somewhat extensive but fascinating. The first 100 pages are rather slow but gives a chance to understand the society a bit better. Some women have extensive power being able to use Gifts. I appreciate the larger issues of colonization, systemic racism and the fight for the few to remain in power and those trying to change the systems.
I realized that I recognized at least 25% of the names from ChiNyanja/ ChiChewa and looked up that Winter lived in Zambia as a child. This was a definite bonus to me.
