The Sword and Laser discussion

I was really interested in this book when I read the book briefing. I finished it pretty quickly when I finally had time to sit and read. I dug the book and though it had things one could complain about, the real thing I couldn't get out of my head is that it reminded me of a book series I read recently (there is a third book coming, I'm told). Full disclosure, the books are written by my friend's sister (who I've never met), but that was only my introduction to them. The first is A Study in Cyborgs and the second is The Neuromorph. They have a similar (slightly less cozy, perhaps) Holmesian vibe, and in those, the sci-fi may play more of a role.

I know the thread asking if the sci-fi was necessary has other thoughts on similar vibes, but figured a dedicated thread may also make sense.

A Study in Cyborgs looks interesting. I've read a lot of Holmesian science fiction and horror over the years, but mostly in short stories. I even tracked down copies of "The Holmesian Federation", a Star Trek fanzine with Holmes/Trek fan fiction. They all have a vibe that I enjoy. Older's contribution fits right in to this canon and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.

I ran across this article on Holmes and science fiction. The author discusses some of the recent Holmesian science fiction like Sherlock Holmes in Orbit.
