"Alright Duskpaw, flatten yourself to the ridge. If you don't, the wind will sweep you away!" "Whatever," Duskpaw grumbles irritably.
I flash him an annoyed glance, but continue,
"You want to ALWAYS be downwind of your prey, and to be as silent as a mouse,"
"But mice aren't silent, if they were then we'd never be able to catch and eat them!"
I growl in frustration. This is going to be a long lesson....

"Hunting session number two! Big birds roam these skies, so you must always keep one eye on the sky. If you don't, you risk being carried away!" I mewed."Sure, but don't I also need to keep one eye on the ground, that way I won't trip?" Duskpaw twitched his tail tip.
"Yes! You must always keep one eye on where you are stepping and one on the sky!" I purred, thinking he was catching on.
"But my face isn't that long, and the sky goes on forever! How do I keep one eye on the ground and one eye on the sky? And isn't the sky air?" Duskpaw smirked.
I rolled my eyes and stopped myself from throwing him over the cliff edge.
"What am I going to do with you Duskpaw?!" I sighed.
"Make me into a warrior," Duskpaw replied curtly befor turning around and stalking back towards camp.
Starcats! Help me!

"Okay Duskpaw, show me your hunter's crouch," I mewed."Whatever," Duskpaw muttered as he awkwardly crouched down into a clumsy hunter's crouch.
"You've been an apprentice for almost two moons and you haven't retained how to do a proper hunter's crouch!" I mewed in disbelief.
"I've retained some things!" Duskpaw mewed defensively, "But it's not my fault that you're a bad mentor!"
It took me a minute to overcome my shock and anger before I growled,
"Don't you ever talk to me like that! I am not just your mentor but also your leader! I expect some respect from you! Go to camp now! You are on elder duty for the rest of the moon! And no Meetings either!"
Duskpaw glared at me but wisely stayed silent as he padded back to camp.
'Please Starcats! I need some help here!' I thought before following Duskpaw back into camp.
-MountainClan roleplay
It has been a moon and Duskpaw has been relieved of his elder duty. He's lucky that I have patience because if I did not his warrior ceremony would be delayed longer than normal.-Sorrelstar
"Duskpaw, lets practice your hunter's crouch because what good warrior cannot hunt for his Clan?" I mewed."Whatever you say, Sorrelstar," Duskpaw mocked.
"Alright, first you want to crouch down low and evenly distribute your weight. Unbalanced weight means you'll have a lopsided leap. Then you want to tuck your hind legs in and coil yourself for your jump. Also note that your tail should be straight out, not too high but not dragging on the ground. Now you try," I nodded to him as I sat up.
Duskpaw crouched down and held his tail straight behind him. He looked up to me for approval and I mewed,
"It is okay, but it can be better. You are favoring your right side so when you jump you will jump awkwardly. Balance yourself! And coil yourself by tucking your hind legs in more. There is nothing worse than jumping short of your prey and losing it."
Surprisingly, Duskpaw did as he was told, and the end result was a very accomplished crouch.
"Good, now Duskpaw, I want you to pounce on that stone over there," I indicated with my tail to a stone a couple yards away.
Duskpaw coiled and leaped falling short of the stone by a few inches.
"Mouse-dung! I missed!" he cursed.
I watched purring in amusement, now he was acting like an normal apprentice and I couldn't be happier!
"It's okay, you'll just need some more practice," I mewed.
Duskpaw just grunted as he crouched again and leapt, landing on a leaf a couple yards away. He looked at me for approval again and I nodded. His whole face lit up with pleasure and I thought I heard a small purr. I don't know how, but Duskpaw has somehow gotten over his rudeness and is now an eager apprentice. Maybe I need to send apprentices to do elder duty more often! The results are pleasing.

"Well done, Duskpaw, that is quite a catch!" I purred in pleasure. Duskpaw is really catching on after his elder duty four moons ago. (Yes, it has really been four moons! Time does fly!)"It isn't that much, Sorrelstar. I missed a shrew by a hair, but everything else was an easy kill," Duskpaw mumbled around his prey.
"You have been improving rapidly. I'd say in about a moon you'll have perfected your hunting and have most everything down in battle training, maybe enough for your assessment," I purred even harder as Duskpaw's face glowed with pleasure.
"Now take those mice to the elders, I'm sure they're hungry! And how about you clean your ticks while you're there!" I mewed.
"Clean the ticks off the elders...." Duskpaw looked at me worriedly.
"Just ruffling your fur! Go get Sparrowpaw to do it, she has missed her turn for a whole moon!" I mewed, my whiskers twitching.
Duskpaw, satisfied, padded away.

"Alright, Duskpaw, you want to crouch low to the ground, clinging to the edge of the cliff," I mewed seriously. If Duskpaw didn't learn and perfect these fighting moves soon, his assessment may have to be put on hold."Okay,"Duskpaw mewed through gritted teeth.
"Now you're going to want to conceal yourself by hiding under something that masks your scent but is light enough for you to easily throw off, like a pile of leaves or even small pebbles,"
Duskpaw melted into the pale yellow leaves of the mountain trees perfectly and I was having a hard time spotting him until he leapt out at me.
"Very good! Now, when you leap, you must be perfectly balanced,"
"Like in hunting?" Duskpaw meowed.
"Yes! Like in hunting! Evenly distribute your weight, then do the Tiger Leap to attack! Try it on me. I will count to ten while you hide and then you must attack me!"
"Alright! Lets do this!" Duskpaw yowled as he barreled away through the mess of trees and shrubs.
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, TEN!" I yowled before turning around and padding through the trees. I kept my senses open and heard a twig snap. Whirling around I saw a startled mouse scamper away. Before I could turn around and continue, a great weight slammed onto my back, and I felt teeth at the back of my neck.
"Perfect!" I gasped as I struggled to my feet, "I didn't hear or smell you until it was too late. That mouse caught me off guard too!"
"It was a nice coincidence, but I hid under leaf mold and saw you a mile away before you saw me!" Duskpaw mewed proudly.
"I think it is time you have your assessment!" I meowed, "You just proved to me that you are very capable of fighting and your hunting is already superior. How about tomorrow then?"
"Oh yes please!" Duskpaw mewed his whole face aglow.
"Well then, tomorrow it is! Now let's head back to camp. You have a long day ahead of you tomorrow; you'll need your rest!"
And we both padded back to camp together, awaiting the big day.
-MountainClan roleplay
"Okay, Duskpaw. Are you ready for this?" I mewed, my voice echoing the pride I felt towards him."Yes! I'm can't wait!" Duskpaw was squirming excitedly as he sat.
"This is how it works; you will go off and hunt wherever you please in the territory. Oakbark and I will observe your technique but will stay hidden. You won't notice us at all. You must at least catch three pieces of acceptable prey," I turned to look at Oakbark who gruffly mewed,
"And don't forget, this is what will determine whether you are good enough to become a warrior. Don't do anything stupid, like fall off a cliff-face! Warriors and a mouse-brained apprentice are two different things!"
"Yes Oakbark!" Duskpaw stood up and began pawing impatiently at the ground outside of camp.
"Alright, you may go," I purred.
Duskpaw shot off leaving the leaves swirling up behind him. I looked over at Oakbark who wheezed out a laugh and purred,
"It looks like tonight we're going to sleep like LOGS!"
I purred with him before running after Duskpaw, keeping my distance from him.
I spotted him in a hunter's crouch and quietly crept under a shrub. I saw the mouse; it was near the cliff-edge eating. I hoped that Duskpaw would have enough sense not to over-jump and end up a pile of guts and fur. Oakbark caught my eye as he crept over to the other side of Duskpaw. I saw his eyes widen then narrow as he came to the same conclusion as I had. Duskpaw wiggling his haunches caught my attention. I watched him jump and fall short missing the mouse by a hair. My whiskers drooped; it was good form but wasn't a catch. Then Duskpaw surprised me by turning on his heel and hooking the escaping mouse with his claw. He swiftly gave it a killing bite, and only then did I realize why he had done what he did. He wanted the mouse to be farther from the cliff edge so that there was less a chance that he would fall. I purred with pleasure at his sense thinking, 'He will make a great warrior!'
Duskpaw made two more successful catches, one was a fat squirrel, and the other was another mouse. He brought them back to camp, his tail held high.
"Well, how did I do?" he mumbled through a mouthful of prey.
"You did very well, Duskpaw, especially when you caught that first mouse," I meowed.
"Yes, that was a very smart thing to do," Oakbark added.
"Go eat and rest. Tonight, I will call a Clan meeting and you will become a warrior!"
Duskpaw quickly dropped his catch in the prey-hole and took a shrew to the apprentice den to share with Sparrowpaw.
I purred with happiness; another one of my apprentices will become a dependable and trustworthy warrior.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their fill meet me at the High-Ledge for a Clan meeting!" I yowled into the evening air. I watched Duskpaw getting fiercely cleaned by his mother Shrubflower. His father, Seedpelt, was watching, his blue eyes full of pride. The Clan cats surrounded the base of the High-Ledge, staring up at me expectantly.
"It is time that a new warrior is made," I mewed, "Duskpaw, please step forward."
Duskpaw stumbled up to me, his eyes bright and his tail high.
"Starcats from above, look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to learn the ways of a warrior.
"Do you promise to faithfully serve your Clan and follow the warrior code, even if it means you may die?" I gravely meowed.
"I do," Duskpaw breathed.
"Then from now on, you shall no longer be called Duskpaw. You shall now be known as Dusklight. The Starcats admire your bright spirit and courage."
"DUSKLIGHT! DUSKLIGHT!" the other cats cheered.
Dusklight respectfully licked my shoulder before turning to the rest of the Clan. He purred loudly.
I purred too; this warrior who used to be mocking and sly is now an eager and loyal cat.

It has been nearly three moons since Dusklight was made a warrior. Now it is time for more to be made."Sparrowpaw, please step forward." I mewed, my whiskers twitching as the eager apprentice tried not to trip over her own paws, "Starcats from above, look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to learn the ways of a warrior.
"Volenose, is Sparrowpaw worthy to take the name of a warrior?"
"Yes, her courage and loyalty speak for itself." Volenose purred.
I turned to Sparrowpaw, and looking into her deep amber eyes, mewed gravely,
"Do you promise to faithfully serve your Clan and follow the warrior code, even if it means you may die?"
"I do," Sparrowpaw breathed excitedly.
"Then from now on, you shall no longer be called Sparrowpaw. You shall now be known as Sparrowswoop. The Starcats admire your great courage and loyalty."
Sparrowswoop respectfully licked my shoulder before turning to her Clanmates.
"SPARROWSWOOP! SPARROWSWOOP!" the Clancats cheered loudly.
As they were cheering, I turned to Nutpaw and nodded. The young tom padded forward, calm and collected. When he reached me, I said,
"Starcats from above, look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to learn the ways of a warrior.
"Violetsprig, is Nutpaw worthy to take the name of a warrior?"
"He is ready. I have never had an apprentice who was as calm and wise as Nutpaw," Violetsprig nodded.
I turned to Nutpaw, and looking into his blue eyes, mewed gravely,
"Do you promise to faithfully serve your Clan and follow the warrior code, even if it means you may die?"
"I do," Nutpaw stared straight ahead, his tail high and his head lifted.
"Then from now on, you shall be known as Nutfall. The Starcats admire you calm and wisdom," I purred.
Nutfall licked my shoulder and turned to his Clanmates. Pride glowed in his eyes.
"NUTFALL! NUTFALL!" the Clancats yowled before meowing at the top of their voices, "SPARROWSWOOP! NUTFALL! SPARROWSWOOP! NUTFALL!"
I looked on with happiness as the Clancats swarmed the new warriors. An important day in Clan history has happened.
-MountainClan roleplay
*Dusklight POV*"Nutfall! Move over!" I muttered. Now that Nutfall and Sparrowswoop are sharing the warrior den, it's more crowded than ever! Either someone is tripping or stepping on another cat's tail or random limb!
"Shut up, Dusklight! We're trying to get some sleep!" Oakbark growled before turning over.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance, of course Oakbark would yowl at me about something! It's not like I'm related to him or anything! I sat up and began to make my way towards then den entrance, careful to not step on any unsuspecting tail or paw. Once I was outside, I headed for the camp entrance; 'A little fresh air might do me good,' I thought. I nodded at Shrewclaw, who was guarding the camp entrance, before sprinting off into the dense scrub of the mountain. I raced along until I reached the cliff edge and sat down. Gazing at the star-filled sky, I felt a sort of peace that can't come from anything else. I heard a noise to my right and saw Seedpelt, my father, padding towards me.
"I see that you also needed some time away," Seedpelt mewed, gazing up at the stars.
"Yeah," I looked up at the stars again.
"You know, every single star is one of our ancestors," Seedpelt sat down next to me.
"I wonder which ones are my sisters, and if they can see me," I choked. Ever since I'd lost my sisters, Flypaw, Daisypaw, and Littlepaw in a scrub fire, my heart had hardened and become pricklier than a thorn bush. Sorrelstar and time with the elders helped me see that I need to let go and live my life. I needed to forget, not regret.
"I'm sure they are watching you; they are up there. I wouldn't be surprised if they were watching us right now," Seedpelt murmured soothingly. It had been hard for him too, losing his kits to the fire.
I leaned into Seedpelt, letting his familiar scent wash over me, letting his fatherly love wash over me too.
'I wouldn't give this up for anything,' I thought, leaning in closer while gazing at the stars.
We stayed like that, father and son comforting each other until dawn.
"I guess we'd better go back," I mewed.
"Yes, I guess we must. The others are probably worried about us," Seedpelt purred. Before he walked away, he licked my ear. I began to purr, and purred the whole way back to camp. I purred even louder when I saw Sparrowswoop, who came across the camp clearing to meet me.
"You had me worried, being gone all night! Are you okay?" she meowed worriedly.
"Yes, I'm better than ever!" I purred, before giving her a quick lick to the ear. I felt her curious gaze on my back as I went to get something from the prey hole, but just purred harder.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own fill meet me at the High-Ledge for a Clan meeting!" I yowled into the morning air.It was the day that new apprentices were to be made. Seedpelt and Shrubflower's second litter of kits were finally six moons old, old enough to leave the nursery and begin training.
All the Clan cats surrounded me as I leapt to the base of the High-Ledge; I saw Dusklight sitting in between Nutfall and Sparrowswoop, Mosspatch trying to collect all her kits to her, and Maplekit, Grasskit, and Smokekit bouncing up to me.
"Grasskit," I called evenly, "Please come here."
Grasskit bounded over to me, his long whiskers twitching in excitement.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and skills he needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Grasskit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I mewed gravely.
"I am!" the young brown tom squeaked.
"Then by the approval of the Starcats, from this day forward until you recieve your warrior name you shall be known as Grasspaw! Your mentor shall be Shrewclaw. Shrewclaw, you are ready for your first apprentice. I trust you to train him well."
"GRASSPAW! GRASSPAW!" the Clan cats yowled.
Grasspaw touched my nose with his before padding to his mentor and doing the same. Then he sat down, his eyes gleaming in excitement.
"Maplekit," I mewed, "Please come here,"
Maplekit came, nearly tripping over her tail in excitement.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and skills she needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Maplekit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I looked at her, and she returned my look with an even gaze.
"I am," she nodded at me.
"Then by approval of the Starcats, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Maplepaw. Your mentor shall be Volenose. Volenose, you have proved yourself ready for another apprentice."
"MAPLEPAW! MAPLEPAW!" all the cats cried, enthusiasm ringing through the crisp morning air.
Maplepaw touched my nose before repeating the same gesture to her mentor. She sat down, her sleek red-brown pelt gleaming.
"Smokekit," I mewed, "Please come here,"
Smokekit came, nearly falling on his nose because of his long legs.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and skills she needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Smokekit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I cocked my head at him, and his whiskers twitched.
"I am," he mewed.
"Then by approval of the Starcats, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Smokepaw. Your mentor shall be Brownleaf. Brownleaf, you are a dependable warrior. I trust you to train Smokepaw well."
"SMOKEPAW! SMOKEPAW!" the Clan cats' cries echoed through the mountains.
Smokepaw touched my nose lightly with his and did the same to his mentor. His grayish pelt ruffled in excitement.
"This Clan meeting has come to an end!" I yowled.
I padded away from the base of the High-Ledge and to my den. Eaglewing will take care of the patrols, and the new apprentices will be eager to explore the territory. Another good day in Clan history has occured.

*Grasspaw POV*"Now Grasspaw, you've been doing well in hunting lately," Shrewclaw mewed.
"How does some battle training sound?"
I pricked my ears at that. Ever since I was a kit, my father, Seedpelt, would talk about all the battles in MountainClan history. I'd sit at his paws and soak up every word. My mother, Shrubflower, often said his tree of a story had ended up nearly a forest, but I didn't care. All I cared about was the fight.
"Grasspaw? Did you hear me?" Shrewclaw frowned at me.
"Yes, sorry," I mewed.
"Well, if you heard me, then who are we going to have battle practice with?" Shrewclaw cocked his head at me.
"I didn't hear that part," I confessed.
"I said we will be practicing with Nutfall and Sparrowswoop at the old Twoleg den. There is a nice, sandy area there, perfect for training," Shrewclaw shook his head in annoyment.
I followed my mentor up a steep part of a mountain and over a little stream.
"That little stream becomes a great river, you know," Shrewclaw barely glanced at it as we walked past.
I didn't dare stop and annoy him further, so I just hurried past the clear, running water.
"Here we are!" Shrewclaw finally mewed. The climb had been exhausting and my legs felt wobbily.
"Shrewclaw!" I heard another tom say, "Did you take Grasspaw the long way here? He looks pretty worn out!"
"Yes Nutfall, I suppose I did," Shrewclaw's gaze softened slightly, and his whiskers twitched in amusement.
"Hi Grasspaw," a she-cat's voice came from my left. I turned to see Sparrowswoop padding towards me, her paws making almost no sound in the soft sand.
"Hi, Sparrowswoop," I gulped. Sparrowswoop is the prettiest she-cat I know, and she has lovely amber eyes.
"Are you ready for battle training?" Nutfall meowed solemnly.
"Yes! Yes, I'm ready!" I yowled in excitement.
I saw Nutfall and Shrewclaw exchange a glance.
"Alright, Nutfall and I will demonstrate the Tiger Leap." Shrewclaw looked me in the eye, implementing that I should pay very close attention.
I sat and watched as Nutfall melted into the background of shrubs and bracken while Shrewclaw minded his own buisness. Then all of a sudden, Nutfall made a powerful leap and landed squarely on Shrewclaw, his teeth at the back of his neck.
"Wow!" I looked on in awe, "That was incredible!"
"Alright, would you like to try?" Shrewclaw asked.
I nodded and began copying Nutfall's movements. I leaped onto Shrewclaw's back, but fell on my side at the same time, giving me a big disadvantage. Now I wouldn't be able to bite the neck!
"Nice try, but you'll have to do better," Shrewclaw mewed.
I tryed again and again but couldn't land right at all! Finally, Shrewclaw sighed and mewed,
"That's enough for today. You did well."
Then I heard him mutter to Nutfall,
"I thought he'd be able to pick it up faster! Maplepaw is already WAY ahead of him!"
I slumped and began to follow the warriors back home, on the quicker route.
-MountainClan roleplay
*Dusklight POV*"Hey, Sparrowswoop, do you want to go hunting with me?" I mewed, my pelt burning.
"Sure, Dusklight. I'd love to go hunting with you!" Sparrowswoop's eyes glowed with what looked like pleasure.
All of a sudden, Grasspaw padded over and mewed,
"Dusklight, you need to go on a border patrol right now, Eaglewing told me to tell you,"
I growled in annoyance but nodded a goodbye to Sparrowswoop and headed over to the border patrol.
"Oh, Dusklight. Would you like to join us on our border patrol?" Seedpelt mewed, "We need another cat,"
I almost said no, realizing my brother had tricked me, but I nodded in agreement. I have to look good to impress Sparrowswoop.
Cloverleaf and Snaketail were also part of the patrol. I saw them both twitch their whiskers at me. Why, I don't know.
As we left camp, I saw Grasspaw talking to Sparrowswoop. I heard her purr and I growled. It looks like an apprentice had his eyes on Sparrowswoop too. To make matters worse, Grasspaw is my younger brother!
"Not for long," I muttered, "Sparrowswoop is mine!"
-MountainClan roleplay
*Sparrowswoop POV*"I don't know why Dusklight hasn't admitted it to me already!" I muttered to myself. For almost two moons Dusklight has followed me around, obviously mooning over me, but hasn't said meowed anything about it! The whole Clan is waiting for him to make a move, but I'm starting to think I may do it myself! I think he is a very nice tom, and he's very good looking too, but his family has a tendency of being overwhelming.
"Sparrowswoop?" it was Dusklight.
"Yes, Dusklight?" I looked over at him curiously.
I watched the confidence drain from his face and he stammered,
"Well, um, I wondered if you could, um. I wondered if you were going to eat the rest of that mouse."
I sighed and pushed the remains of the mouse I had been eating over to him. I got up and stretched, flexing my needle-like claws and digging them into the soft earth of the camp clearing.
'I know!' I thought to myself as I padded over to the apprentices' den, 'I will pretend to like Grasspaw and that should hurry along Dusklight's courage!'
"Grasspaw!" I mewed silkily, "Do you want to come hunting with me? Just you and me?"
I saw several ears prick, including Dusklights. Grasspaw bounded out of the apprentices' den and skidded to a halt at my side.
"Sure, Sparrowswoop! Anytime!" he mewed, looking triumphantly towards Dusklight.
My littermate, Nutfall, looked at me like I had grown another head. I just twitched my whiskers and turned my attention to Dusklight. The golden tom seemed to stiffen under my gaze and his blue eyes flashed with fury towards Grasspaw. He got up and padded over to us mewing,
"Sorry, Grasspaw. Sparrowswoop was going hunting with ME."
"Last time I checked, she asked yours truly. Or were you too busy pouting to hear?" Grasspaw shot back.
"Sparrowswoop was going with me, until you sent me off on a patrol on your own accord!" Dusklight clawed at the ground.
"Is that true?" I gasped. I had no idea that Grasspaw had lied so that we could go hunting together!
"Of course, it's not! Why would I lie?" Grasspaw's mew became defensive.
"Actually, Grasspaw. We were going to do some battle training with Smokepaw," Shrewclaw's mew cut through camp.
"But, I was going to go hunting!" Grasspaw whined.
"Now, Grasspaw. We are going now!"
Grasspaw slumped and padded after his mentor. I caught my brother's eye and saw him nod at me. He had persuaded Shrewclaw to rid me of the annoying apprentice! I blinked at my brother and turned to Dusklight.
"I would love to go hunting, if you want to go,"
"Of course, I want to go!" Dusklight began, but resuming his composure mewed, "I mean, yes, the Clan needs the prey. How about near the cliff-face."
"That sounds good," I purred back.
We both squeezed out of camp through the fern and bracken camp entrance before running shoulder to shoulder through the brush and scrub.

*Night POV*I wrinkled my nose at the stench of the human garbage that surrounded me. I pawed through the tasteless scraps of human rubbish and sighed. There was nothing to eat at all!
'I wonder what mountain food would taste like,' I thought to myself, 'I bet it'd taste better than this human rubbish!'
"Night? Is that you?" I cringed at the voice behind me.
"Yes, Winter, it's me," I muttered as my brother strode out from behind a rubbish bin. My brothers and I were born to a 'stray' and as soon as we were old enough, split our separate ways. One of my brothers, Winter, followed me for a while, but eventually became a housecat. I preferred the streets, so I am staying a 'stray'.
"Night! I thought I would never see you again! I expected that you would have been hit by a Monster already!" Winter's squeaky mew echoed annoyingly in my head. His sleek white coat shone in the dim streetlights above us, and his breath reeked of housecat food.
"I may be small, but I'm not stupid." I growled at my brother. Even though we shared blood doesn't mean I had to like him.
"Of course! I always knew you were a smart cat, but our father was too, and his life was quickly ended by a Monster." Winter shrugged and strode toward me.
"Why aren't you cowering around the paws of your humans?" I hissed at Winter.
"I like to roam around too you know, but unlike you I like to be stroked and loved. Our mother never loved us, but these humans love me!"
"Whatever, Winter." I growled, "I'm leaving!"
I strode away, my tail held high. Without me even realizing my paws lead me to the base of the mountain. It looked much bigger than it did on the streets.
"Who are you?" a deep mew growled at my right.
"I'm Night," I hissed back, facing the tom. Another tom and a she-cat came around a log and hissed at me.
"What are you doing on OUR territory?" the tom hissed.
"I was going to hunt, and I didn't know it was your territory!" Night screeched.
"Volenose," the she-cat mewed to the tom facing me, "She looks not much older than an apprentice, how about she comes back to camp with us,"
"Cloverleaf, I don't think that is such a good idea, she looks sickly," Volenose muttered.
"I think it is a great idea, and I'm not sickly!" I retorted.
"Then it's settled, we shall bring Night to our camp and see what Sorrelstar has to say," the other tom mewed.
"Yes, Eaglewing," Volenose dipped his head in respect.
I followed them with excitement. I had come here by accident and was now going to a camp! This day has turned out awesome!
-MountianClan roleplay
"So, Night, I know this is a bit rushed, but you are telling me you want to become a warrior?" I mewed in disbelief. This random loner strolled into camp with my warriors, chatting with them like old friends, and then confronts me and tells me she wants to be a warrior?!
"Yes, Sorrelstar, that's right. Cloverleaf told me all about Clan life, and I really want to join it! My family all split up and now some are housecats and others are loners. I want to feel like a belong somewhere. Not like a piece of human rubbish tossed into their bins!" Night exclaimed.
I was not quite sure what Night was rambling about, but I decided she looked sincere.
"Okay, Night. We will have your apprentice ceremony today, but if you can't handle the life of a warrior, then you will have to leave." I mewed firmly.
"Oh, thank you Sorrelstar! I won't let you down!" Nigth promised.
A few hours later
"Let all cats old enough to catch their fill meet me at the High-Ledge!" I yowled.
I watched Night as she rapidly cleaned herself and sat down to wait. Many Clan cats shot questioning glances at her, but they all sat down around the ledge without a mew.
"Night, please come forward," I mewed solemnly.
Night lifted her tail as she padded towards me, and she looked deeply into my eyes, hers full of hope and excitement.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and skills she needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Night, are you ready to take on this burden?"I mewed.
"I am," she mewed back.
"Then by approval of the Starcats, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name you shall be known as Nightpaw. Your mentor shall be Cloudshade. Cloudshade, you used to be a loner, but are now one of my most dependable warriors. I trust you to pass on these traits to Nightpaw." I purred.
"NIGHTPAW! NIGHTPAW!" the Clancats yowled loudly. I could tell some of them looked unsure of this arrangement, but most of them looked happy about this.
I know Nightpaw will become a warrior; an important day has occured.
*Cloudshade POV*"Okay, Nightpaw, we will work on a hunters' crouch," I mewed.
"Sounds good!" Nightpaw was slightly bouncing around.
"First you will want to get down, like this," I demonstrated a perfect hunters' crouch.
"Okay! Let me try!" Nightpaw copied the crouch perfectly!
"Well done, Nightpaw!" I purred. This young cat was so smart!
"Can we actually hunt now? I'm hungry! I could really go for a mouse right now!" Nightpaw was pacing excitedly.
"Whoa! Slow down there! First of all, we will go hunting once you learn stalking and pouncing. And second, you don't eat when you're hunting, it's against the warrior code. You must wait until you have brought back what you caught, and the elders and queens have eaten their share." maybe Nightpaw wasn't cut out to be a warrior.
"Oh, okay!" Nightpaw's bright personality wasn't shaken a bit. She just bounced around some more. I rolled my eyes. This was going to be difficult. How do you humble and wear out a cat so full of personality and energy?!
"Nightpaw, to stalk prey you want to be in your hunter's crouch. You want your paws to step so softly on the ground it's like you are floating. And you want to keep your tail slightly above the ground-"
"That way my tail doesn't disturb anything like a leaf, so the prey doesn't realize I'm there until it's too late. Cloudshade, I've hunted before. I need to balance my weight and don't underestimate my leap." Nightpaw mewed, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"Well, yes. I guess I'm eager to teach you things since you are my first apprentice." I looked at my paws.
"That's okay, Cloudshade. It's nice to have a refresher here and there," Nightpaw tried to comfort me.
"Well then, how about we go hunting!" I mewed trying to sound cheerful.
"Okay!" Nightpaw was bouncing around again.
A little while later
"Wow! Well done, Nightpaw!" Oakbark's gruff mew sounded shocked, "you must have a good mentor!"
"I do! Cloudshade is the BEST!" Nightpaw purred as she placed her catch in the prey-hole.
"You are a good mentor!" Cloverleaf murmured to me as I walked past her. I felt my ears grow red in embarrassment. Everybody thought I was a great mentor when Nightpaw could teach ME a few things! I feel like a failure. Maybe being a warrior wasn't the right choice for me.
*Cloudshade POV*I sat outside near the cliffs looking at the stars.
"Starcats, please help me find who I am meant to be," I whispered into the night air. I heard a crunching behind me and turned to see Dusklight padding toward me. He sat next to be in silence and stared up at the stars. It was a while before I mewed,
"Hi, sorry if I stole your spot out here. I heard you like to come out here to be alone sometimes,"
"I do like to come out here, but not to be alone. I am sitting among the Starcats. My sisters...." Dusklight trailed off into silence.
"I'm sorry they died, they would have made great warriors," I mewed sympathetically.
"you know, Cloudshade, we are more similar then you think," Dusklight looked at me fiercly.
"What do you mean?' I was confused.
"We both have lost things in our lives and need time to deal with them. Being a warrior is a big responsibility for both of us and we have apprentice troubles,"
"You have apprentice troubles? You don't even have an apprentice!"
"I have a younger brother who is an apprentice," Dusklight rolled his eyes at me.
I purred at him, and we sat together looking at the stars in silence.
"Nightpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, even though you may perish in doing so?" I recited the ancient words of the naming ceremony."I do!" Nightpaw breathed, her whiskers twitched.
"Then from this day on, you shall be known as Nightflame!"
"NIGHTFLAME! NIGHTFLAME!" all the other cats cheered.
I took a deep breath and yowled,
"There is one more thing, Eaglewing has decided to retire to the elder's den. This leaves me without a deputy. I have thought long and hard about this, and the new deputy of MountainClan shall be...."

*Sparrowswoop POV*"Should I tell him?" I whispered to Nutfall as I paced in front of the warriors' den.
"Listen, Sparrowswoop, of course you should tell him! He has the right to know!!" Nutfall rolled his eyes at me, "Why does this have to be a big secret anyway? Everyone knew it was bound to happen!"
"They did? What do you mean?" I raised an eyebrow at Nutfall.
"Listen, just tell him! He'll be gone on a dawn patrol, and you'll have to wait even longer if you don't do it now!!"
"Okay, wish me luck," I mewed as I padded up to Dusklight. He was stretching in the early morning sun, his golden pelt glowing.
"Dusklight, I have something to tell you!" I bounced on my paws.
"Oh, what is it?" Dusklight turned his gaze onto me.
"I'm going to have kits! Our kits!" I purred.
"What?! That's wonderful! Hey Grassbreeze!" Dusklight was pacing excitedly, "Sparrowswoop is going to have our kits!"
Grassbreeze muttered something under his breath and sat down near Nightflame.
"That's wondeful!" Shrubflower wove around Dusklight and layed her tail on my back.
"What's this I hear?" Sorrelstar's eyes sparkled, "You and Dusklight are finally having kits?"
"Finally?" Dusklight's mew was thick with confusion.
"Everyone has waited for moons for this moment! We were all surprised it hadn't happened sooner!" Seedpelt purred.
"Oh great, more kits," Stonesong grumbled, but there was a glimmer of happiness in his eye.
I sighed in contentment.

* Sparrowswoop POV *"One more, Sparrowswoop! You're almost done!" Twigsnap soothed.
"Aagh!" I screeched as pain ripped through my body. Then everything stopped. The pain was gone.
"Sparrowswoop, you did it! Say hello to your three beautiful kits!" Twigsnap purred.
I looked down at my stomach and three bundles of fluff were snuggled up to me. One of them was the golden color of Dusklight and the other two were brown tabbies, like me.
"Can I come in?" Dusklight's mew was choked with worry.
"Of course," I purred, "The kits need their father's help in their names!"
Dusklight squeezed into the nursery and stared lovingly at the kits.
"How about Timberkit for the brown tom," Dusklight breathed.
"That's perfect for him!" I purred.
"And Briarkit for the brown she-kit," Dusklight sighed.
"That's perfect too," I mewed.
"And for the golden tom, you can name him," Dusklight purred.
"How about Emberkit," I looked at Dusklight.
"Now THAT is a perfect name," Dusklight licked my ear.
"Timberkit, Briarkit, and Emberkit," I sighed. This was my family, and nothing could make me happier.
-MountainClan roleplay
*Briarkit POV*"Get off my tail!" I hissed at Timberkit. I squirmed under the huge weight of my littermate who was deliberately squashing me. I batted firmly at his paws and when he continued squashing me, I scratched him.
"OOOWWW! BrIaRkIt!! You scratched me!" Timberkit mewled pitifully. He hopped off me and scampered over to Sparrowswoop to complain. I just sat up and neatly groomed my disheveled fur. Emberkit padded over to me and mewed loudly,
"Timberkit is such a wuss! He's supposed to be the oldest kit but is always whining about something or other!"
Sparrowswoop glared at Emberkit and me but didn't say anything. I rolled my eyes at Emberkit and trotted over to Dusklight, my father.
"Hey, Briarkit," Dusklight licked my ear fondly.
"Stop that!" I squeaked, "You're more of a mouse-brain than Timberkit when you do that!"
Dusklight drew away quickly and flicked his tail, embarrassed. He looked over at Sparrowswoop before standing up and padding over to Cloudshade.
"Hmph, a kit can't say anything anymore!" I growled before wandering into the medicine den. I sneezed at the strong odor of the herbs and backed out of the den quickly. As I backed up, I ran into Sorrelstar.
"Hey! Watch it!" I growled as I stalked away. Nutfall and Nightflame exchanged a look as I stomped back to the nursery and flopped into my nest.
"Ow! Briarkit!" Daisykit squeaked as my hind leg whacked her in the head. I just curled up into a ball and huffed. Why was everyone so annoying?!
-MountainClan roleplay
* Cloudshade POV*"I'm sorry Dusklight, I can't change your kit's attitude!" I purred. Dusklight's gaze flashed with sadness.
"Can't you do anything? I mean, Sorrelstar was able to get the attitude out of me!" Dusklight mewed.
"I'm not Sorrelstar!" I sighed, "But I can try something. When she becomes an apprentice, I will get Sorrelstar to apprentice her to someone who doesn't tolerate that mouse-dung and after a lot of elder duties, will probably turn out as well as you did!"
"But that's a long way off! She needs to be nicer NOW!" Dusklight's mew was strained.
"Why?" I was utterly confused.
"Because the Star-cats will take her if she's not!" Grief glazed Dusklight's eyes.
"I still don't-"
"My first love, my best friend, Drippaw died in the fire that my sister's died in! I was so rude and angry before they died and the Star-cats punished me for that! I'm thankful I have Sparrowswoop, but I will always miss Drippaw." Dusklight's mew was thick with emotion.
"Oh, Dusklight! I'm sure the Star-cats weren't punishing you! If Drippaw were still alive, and even your sisters, would you be with Sparrowswoop? And would Grassbreeze, Mapletail or Smokewhisker be alive? Your parents would already have a whole litter of kits! The Star-cats had nothing to do with your friend and familie's death!" I licked Dusklight's ear.
"I just; I've lost so much when I was a rude cat, and I don't want that to happen to Briarkit!" Dusklight sighed.
"It won't happen, I promise." I nodded at Dusklight.
"Hey, watch it!" a small mew growled. Dusklight and I turned to see Briarkit shaming Sorrelstar. Dusklight's eyes flashed, but he didn't move. I sighed. What had I gotten myself into?!
-MountainClan roleplay
Six Moons Later!!"Emberkit, please come here," I mewed. My whiskers twitched in amusement as the small golden tom nearly fell over with excitement.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and skills he needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Emberkit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I looked into his deep blue eyes. This tom was the spitting image of his father.
"I am!" Emberkit squeaked.
"Then until you recieve your warrior name, you shall be known as Emberpaw! Your mentor shall be Cloverleaf!"
"EMBERPAW! EMBERPAW!" the Clan cats cheer. Emberpaw scampers over to his new mentor, excitement shining in his blue eyes.
"Timberkit," I purred. The large tom stumbled over, his tail held high.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and strength he needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Timberkit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I look the tom directly into his amber eyes.
"I am," Timberkit shrank under my gaze, but kept his voice steady.
"Then until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Timberpaw! Your mentor shall be Nutfall!"
"TIMBERPAW! TIMBERPAW!" all the cats cheer. Nutfall looks alarmed that he had been picked as Timberpaw's mentor, but quickly assumes his usual calm.
"And that leaves me with Briarkit. Briarkit, please come here," I mew.
Briarkit strides up to the High-Ledge, calm and in control. Like she's been made an apprentice every day of her life.
"It is time for the warrior cycle to begin again in this new apprentice; Starcats of above, give this young cat the guidance and behavior she needs to take on the burden of an apprentice. Briarkit, are you ready to take on this burden?" I look her in the eye, trying to pick out her emotions.
"I am," Briarkit flicks her tail.
"Then until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Briarpaw! Your mentor shall be..." I gazed the crowd of faces. I settled on my deputy, and she nods for me to continue.
"Your mentor shall be Sleekwhisker!" I cry. I shuddered, hoping that paring the rudest cat in the Clan with the rudest kit in the Clan was a good idea. Cloudshade hoped they would soften to each other and the Clan as time went on, but I wasn't so sure.
"BRIARPAW! TIMBERPAW! EMBERPAW!" the Clan yowls. Sleekwhisker raises an eyebrow at me but weaves her way over to her apprentice. They both stare at each other hard and then sit respectfully near each other. Oh boy, what did I do?!
-MountaincClan roleplay
*Dusklight POV*"Hey, Sparrowswoop, now that you're out of the nursery, would you like to go hunting sometime?" I licked my chest anxiously. Just because we had kits doesn't mean Sparrowswoop would want to hang out with me.
"I don't know, I'm super busy Dusklight. Even though Timberpaw, Emberpaw, and Briarpaw have moved into the apprentice den, I still have to clean the nursery and then I've volunteered to help Stonesong and Twigsnap in the medicine cat den because they don't have an apprentice. I also promised the elders I would bring them fresh kill since today all the apprentices will be doing battle training! I just don't have time right now!!" Sparrowswoop mewed as she rushed around outside the nursery, tidying as she went.
"Oh, okay," I mewed lamely and padded off towards Nightflame and Grassbreeze.
"Oh! Hi Dusklight!" Nightflame purred when I stood in front of her. Grassbreeze just growled in a low tone. He bushed his tail slightly, but kept his claws sheathed.
"Hi you two! Just wondered if anyone would like to go hunting," I looked at the young black warrior hopefully. She flicked her tail.
"Well, I was going to spend some time with Grassbreeze, but I could go for a stretch! What do you say Grassbreeze? How about we go hunting! It'd be better than just lazing around!" Nightflame bounced to her feet.
"But I like just lazing around!" Grassbreeze grumbled as he got to his feet.
As we all trotted out of camp, hurt flashed in Sparrowswoop's eyes. I raised an eyebrow and started padding toward her, but she just turned around and walked away.

*Featherpaw POV*I licked myself nervously, both Sprigwhisker and Petalflight have gotten their warrior names already! I'm next!!
"Featherpaw, please come here," Sorrelstar called me over. Her sorrel patches were drowned in her gray pelt. Her long whiskers twitched as I nervously bounced over to her. I sat down and flicked my tail awkwardly.
"Featherpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code even though you may perish? Even when times get tough, and you may lose everything that matters to you. Do you promise to always do everything you can to continue serving the Clan until you have either passed or are retired?" Sorrelstar looked at me, unblinking.
"I promise," I breathe, excitement washing over me.
"Then from this day forward, you shall be known as Feathergaze!"
"Feathergaze! Sprigwhisker! Petalflight!!" The Clancats yowled.
I purred and hurried over to my mother, Mosspatch. My littermates crowded around her too. She was drowned in her kits.
"Well done, all of you! Your father would've been so proud!" she purred. I stopped purring and stalked away. Our father was a kittypet or rogue. Mosspatch never specified, only that he wasn't a Clan cat. Now I feel like mouse dung!

*Emberpaw POV*"Cloverleaf, why do we need to practice hunting, AGAIN?!" I scratched at my ear in frustration.
"Because you still need the practice!" Cloverleaf growled, annoyed. She whisked her tail to state her point.
"But, but shouldn't I practice fighting instead?" I washed my chest with rhythmic strokes.
"You will get a lot more out of hunting than fighting! Besides, our Clan doesn't fight, we make peace with those around us," Cloverleaf cuffed me around the ears.
"What was that for?" I bounced up, glaring.
"There was your battle practice, now we're going hunting," Cloverleaf stood up and padded out of camp. I glared after her, but gave in and trailed her, annoyed.
"Cloverleaf, Sorrelstar doesn't hunt and she's Clan leader! Why can't I NOT hunt too?" I pounced on a leaf, but losing interest, batted at a pinecone.
"Sorrelstar is getting older, and she hunted for many months, faithfully, for her Clan before she was leader!" Cloverleaf continued her brisk pace. I had to jog to keep up.
"Well, if we're going hunting, why not hunt here?" I puffed.
"I'm taking you to the old Twoloeg den to hunt. Mice love it there," Cloverleaf leaped over a small bramble bush. I had to scamper around it.
It was a long, tiring trek up to the old Twoleg den. It was soft and sandy inside, perfect for battle training.
"Are we actually going to do battle training?" I squeaked with excitement.
"Shh! I'm trying to hear prey!" Cloverleaf ignored my question and, hearing a mouse, followed her ear until she pounced. When Cloverleaf was a kit, she had an accident which left her barely able to scent or taste, so she opts for hearing. She can hear a mouse sneeze from the other side of the mountain!
"Wow! That's a big mouse!" I stared with awe at the huge mouse clamped in Cloverleaf's jaws.
"Ift waf nofing," Cloverleaf mumbled around her prey.
"Is it my turn?" I wriggled excitedly. Cloverleaf nodded her head, and I instantly began to track mouse scents. I heard one nearby and after a little bit of pinpointing, I pounced. The mouse was not as big as my mentor's but was still a large piece of prey.
"Look, Cloverleaf! This is SO big!!" I purred as I picked up my kill.
Cloverleaf nodded again and motioned with her tail to follow her. We went out a different hole than the one we'd entered, and quickly padded down the mountain and into camp. I dropped my prey in the prey-hole and gaped at my mentor. She took me the LONG way to the old Twoleg den when we could've been and back in the time it takes to say 'mouse'!
Cloverleaf licked my ear as she padded into the warriors den and left me to stare after her, annoyed. Nutfall saw my expression and purred.
"She took you the long way too," he laughed.
I rolled my eyes at him and stalked away to the apprentices' den.
